1998 Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva Rioja

"Tempranillo 80% · Garnacha, Mazuelo y Graciano 20%

Made from grapes grown on clayey-calcareous and alluvial soil

This wine is aged for 12 months in wooden vats, 36 months in oak barrels and at least 36 months in bottle."(tech info http://www.bodegasmuga.es)

Aromas jump from the glass the second the bottle was opened. Spicey Caribbean cigar and hints of leather and freshly tilled Midwestern farm soil. A soupcon of korintje cinnamon from Indonesia, homemade cooked sour cherry pie filing and frozen Bear Lake raspberries. Drying tannins have a little bite, but are not harsh. As you drink the wine, the flavors just grow in your mouth and the wine evolved in the glass becoming more animalistic over the evening. 92-93pts
