For those who think the 1997 Napa Valley vintage of cabernet sauvignon is already mature, over the hill, breaking up etc, you need to try this wine. Deep red with shade of purple, closed nose until it had been open for two hours, then blackberries and cherries, plenty of tannin but it is in balance with the fruit, nice long finish, superior wine, 95 points. I think it will need three to five years to show at its best.

I've got one bottle of the 97 and have been tempted on many occasions to open it. Thanks for the tip to let it sit. I have been starting to explore the 97's and have not found the dumb period so many on these boards have mentioned. The Cinq Cepages, Far niente, Opus, Whitehall, Viader, Martin Ray, and Cornerstone have all opened up quite nicely in the last 2-3months. You never know what the future holds. as they say, Life is Too Short to Drink Bad Wine!!!! Wink

What kind of name is Poon anyway?
