It was a Napa Valley cabernet weekend and these are 2 of my three favorite cabernet sauvignon producers, the other being Chateau Montelena.
The 1994 Spottswoode at age 10 is a beauty. Just entering prime time. Light ruby color, nose of cherry fruit, very complex with a long, long finish. Delicious and very elegant. My wife said it was her favorite cabernet since two years ago when we drank the last bottle of a case of 1974 Heitz Marthas Vineyard. I don't think it was in that league but for me it was a solid 94 points. I think prime time will be the next three years and then a very slow decline.

1997 Etude had a rich ruby color, the nose was initially closed and took one hour to start opening. Really bright berry fruit, long finish, really a young wine especially as compared to the 1994 Spottswoode. Rich and elegant, needs three years to blossom but absolutely delicious if you give it a minimum of two hours to open. 94+
