- 1985 Creston Manor Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Central Coast (11/2/2006)
This was one of my favorite wines back in the mid-90s when I started getting into wine, and I've been carrying a bottle in my cellar for a decade now. Finally popped it last night. Cork was crumbly. Garnet color, with slight bricking on the edges. Terrific, fragrant tobbaco and currant nose. Smelled like a mature claret. Lively, peppery mid-palate, with a clean blackberry streak just prior to a sturdy, slightly acidic finish. I was very pleased with how this bottle showed and enjoyed the emotions it evoked while drinking it (remembering our old house in the city and the friends who first brought the bottle over). An example of how collecting wine can be good for the soul - even the non-trophy bottles. (91 pts.)
