I've had this bottle for 25+ years, and while it was fully mature, it still possessed a vibrant color. This was an easy wine to confuse with a mature Bordeaux with its musty nose, and excessive green pepper. Yes, it was very drinkable mature wine, but with all of that green bell-pepper, I think it was terribly flawed. 80 points

Nothing to re-think! Pine Ridge makes far better wines today than they did in 1983, They had a major capital infusion in the early 90's, around 1992/93; they updated the winery, and built new caves.

I think their Fortis, especially in a magnum, will be just fine for your daughters 21st birthday! Pine Ridge has been making Bordeaux-like wines for many years, and they've steadily improved over the last 15 years. I think you made a good decision, and should be okay with the wine cellared at 55 degrees. Good luck.
