Over the weekend we had dinner at The Anvil Club in East Dundee to celebrate my 30th birthday, and this bottle was perfect.

Decanted for about two hours before serving. The cork, while very soft, came out in one piece. Served in Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux glasses.

The color on this was fantastic, bright ruby, just barely turning clear at the rim. There is no way just looking at this wine one would think it was a '75. Aromas of violets and fresh-cut flowers fill the glass. There's an earthiness to it as well. Silky palate, loaded with red fruit. There are no harsh tannins, the wine is well balanced and has a very nice finish. 93 pts.

Looks like I was wrong in my post above. We had another bottle of this wine last night.

Tasted 5 minutes after careful decanting. The cork was stained to the top, but the bottle had an excellent fill for a wine this old, near the bottom of the neck. The wine was a deep garnet in color with no hint of bricking. It had a nose of damp forest floor and baked fruit with a hint of cedar. On the palate, the tannins have softened and ripe dark berry flavors along with plenty of acidity yielded a well-balanced wine. I would have preferred a little more depth. I see no reason to hold this any longer, but neither is there any hurry to open it. 93

One hour later: The wine has opened beautifully with some astringency balanced by a lush edge. Impressive. 95

Very nice!

I can not wait to hear what you are drinking on a Tuesday night.
1975 Château Léoville Las Cases - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (7/20/2013)
Popped & poured- not decanted- just before our entrées arrived. Displays a healthy garnet core which fades only slightly towards the meniscus. Initial tatse & assessment: whoa, lovely red fruit, and a lot of it! i quickly poured glasses for Domino and I and then tastes for all of the staff who were nearby. Aromas of red currants, tobacco, Indian spices, lavender and cedar. The tannins have completely integrated- one might not think this was a '75. Elegant and seamless across the palate, featuring flavors of berries, cedar, florals, sweet red fruit and perhaps a bit of leather too. Medium finish. I was surprised by the amount of fruit left in this wine for the first 45 minutes it was open, but it wasn't much longer before it took on a dark fruit profile and turned a bit tart. (89 pts.)
