Side by side tasting after 2 hour of aeration in a decanter. VT cork broke off and a quick straining removed any small particulate matter.
1995 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau
Pale ruby colour with light brown sheen. Aroma showed a decent amount of not quiet ripe red berry notes with some heat. Tasted elegant, somewhat linear but in no way tired. Light on the palette with additional earthy notes and a mild white pepper sensation supported by well noticeable tannins which are entirely integrated and provide a pleasant finish.
1995 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
A bit darker compared to the VT an also no hue of any brown colour. In addition to the very similar fruit aromas it shows more pronounced gamey and earthy notes which are not seeking for domination over the fruit notes. Similar acidity and mouth filling tannins for a pleasant finish.
It would not be fair to call a winner since I believe that the VT bottle might be not a perfect representation due to the compromised cork.
I felt that the Vieux Tele was more advanced. A compromised cork may explain that.
