I took a chance on this wine and bought it at auction for $23. 2001 was an excellent vintage in California and I enjoy the Kathryn Kennedy wines so I thought it was worth the risk. Decanted 1 hour before dinner at an Italian restaurant. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a little Petite Verdot. I've previously had the 1988 and 1990 Laterals. Very solid cork. Lightly sedimented. Clear crimson color without any bricking. Fresh fruity nose. Notes of berries, red licorice and currants. Soft and very approachable tannins. In a very nice spot at 20 years old. Lacking a little length on the finish. Drink now. 92 points.
