1996 Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero Alenza - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero (2/19/2007)

This was opened at Pinot Envy's home last week. Not sure who brought it. 1996 was an excellent year in Ribera del Duero. I have had the regular 1996 Condado de Haza RdD several times with mixed reviews. 92 points once and a cooked wine another time. This is a special bottling from the estate made in the best vintages. This wine had an earthy core filled with ripe fruit. Notes of black currant, truffle and spices. Integrated tannins. I liked it slightly less than the WA91 points score. 88-90 points for me.
