I recently had the pleasure of tasting two grand crus from Marco de Grazie's Terre Nerre
They were the Calderara Sottana 2016 and the San Lorenzo 2016
Wow what amazing wines.
The Calderara has an effusive nose with great frutta di bosco and forest floor . Also tobacco and vanilla touches. It explodes on the pallet and covers all parts with full expressions
The San Lorenzo is deeper with a floral nose edging toward violets and camomile. It has a touch of aggression expressed in the tannins and acidity. Also great fruit
Both are grown at altitude on the northern slopes of Etna and spend 18 months in large oak format
They are Sicilian but certainly in style remind me of some of the better Burgundian expressions
