On the question of calling witnesses or not....... What happens if there is a vote on calling witnesses, like Bolton, and the vote is 50-50? Does the Chief Justice break the tie?
On Dershowitz: He's very bright and speaks well, and speaks forcefully. But speaking loudly and forcefully doesn't mean you are right. As to what the Founders intended.... who knows? It would be nice if the Republicans would come out and say, "The President, by requesting aid in our electoral process for his own benefit from the Ukrainians, did something wrong. But, we don't think it is an impeachable offense." But, they lack the backbone to even say that the President was wrong to do this with Ukraine. Why? Because most of them are concerned mostly about their own re-election prospects and continuing in the positions of power than they have achieved. Romney, who is wealthy and doesn't need the Senate position, but is beloved in Utah and will keep it as long as he wants, is free to say what he really thinks. So is Lamar Alexander, who is leaving office. Murkowski is pretty popular in Alaska, and Alaskans are pretty independent.
A copy of Profiles in Courage should be placed on each Senator's desk.
