I mean... I always thought in the context of that style, Ramey SV Chards were probably better than most of their competition. I see SAQ has the Hyde vineyard for $62 US. So I guess that is $83 Canadian. I mean, for what it is...

Side note/sigh: You have access to Kumeu River Hunting Hill @ internationally competitive price ($42 US). But it may be too complete and balanced a wine for this person. But, I mean...

I've never thought of the Ramey Hyde as being a big buttery & oaky chard, which is why I didn't suggest it.

Everything is relative. Compared to most of the Chardonnays I enjoy, it is. But almost all of the Chardonnays I chase are Burgundies. As you see, I understood the Kumeu River wines wouldn’t work here; but those are more where my palate lies. So, while I like Ramey Hyde Chards, they seem overt in fruit and oak to me. Somewhat reminiscent in style of the older Kistlers. (I hear Kistler recently changed its style but I haven’t tried one in years.)  I wasn’t knocking them. I was trying to think of a well-made wine that the description would still apply to. 😎
