So I ate a a very nice restaurant in Houston and drank 2006 Faust cabernet. I really enjoyed the wine and looked it up on Wine Spectator. To my surprise it was rated an 80 with the following notes: Dry, with savory herb, dried currant and berry fruit, this is ultimately hollow midpalate, ending with stale mineral, sage and loamy earth flavors.
How can this be? I don't think my palate is way off and everyone else at dinner enjoyed the wine ( over $100 per bottle at the restaurant)
Tasting a glass of wine in a flight of 20 vs. enjoying a bottle over dinner can yield some very different experiences.
