You'll be happy to know that the Italians seem to be very helpful. When I was there several years ago, I went to a couple of estates and then just asked for recomendations from there. I expirienced some of the best wines Tuscany had to offer and all from referal of a couple of other wineries/estates. Also information on wine in the region is fairly readily available in Sienna and Florence not to mention some of the smaller wine villages. All the train stations now have small information centers and there is always someone who speaks English there. Don't just stick to the Supertuscans, try some of the Rserva Chiantis as well. Some of these wines are brilliant. Basciano was a great place to visit and the Villages in the Rufina district are so steeped in history and wine it was scary.
