2016 Bodegas Proexa Vega Valterra Bobal

I can’t recall when I bought this; guessing after tasting it at a LWS. I never logged the wine into CT. I can say that I wish I had more. Not decanted, but I’m writing this on my second glass after being open about two hours.

Deep opaque red in the glass but not quite purple. Gorgeous nose of red, blue and black fruit at a nice level of ripeness. Medium-bodied and clean, with a great level of acidity to balance the big fruit. Tannins are present and grippy, but not harsh. Flavors of dark berries and black licorice. It could be mistaken for a Grenache driven Cotes-du-Rhône easily. Fermented and aged in concrete, and it’s nice to not have oak influence get in the way of the fruit. This is right up my alley. 91-92. Good match with grilled pork as well.
