My WOTY so far. Celebrated our daughter’s engagement and opened this wine. The color was deep ruby red with no bricking at the rim. Nose of allspice, porcini mushrooms, and forest floor. Beguiling! I know I repeat myself when I say mature Brunello has a sweetness and purity of fruit but I don’t know a better descriptor. The wine was fresh and clean on the palate, almost dancing across every millimeter of your mouth. The finish was long and extremely satisfying. We drank the wine over a couple of hours and it continued to improve with no signs of fading. I obtained this wine directly from the estate 16 years ago, along with the ‘80 Riserva and the ‘85 normale. It was included in a 6 bottle OWC case. This again proves that provenance matters.
