Siduri Tasting
Is anyone attending the Siduri tasting in Houston on Tuesday night? Did anyone attend in Austin on Monday night and how did it go?

I think WineTex will be there. You can PM her on VinoCellar.

Siduri is primarily known for Pinots, right?

True, it's almost all they make I think. They get many of their grapes from central coast vineyards like Pisoni and Gary's. I had the '98 Pisoni a few years ago and it was very nice.

Their website is here.

Sapril, there are three Dallas events. There is a tasting at the Farpointe Wine Bar with appetizers on Wednesday. Then afterwards there is a dinner in Colleyville at "64", a brand new restaurant. Thursday night there is another dinner at Il Sole in Dallas. Mr & Mrs MikeB, Mr & Mrs preferred, PURPLE and myself will be at the Dallas dinner. I believe all events are sold out except the Dallas dinner. There were 5-6 spots available as of this morning.

Thanks WIML.

I was particularly interested in the tasting but looks like it is sold out. Frown

I went to the Austin wine dinner.
I drank a lot of wine and forgot my menu/tasting sheet. Frown

From memory we did a reception tasting of:
Novy Sauv.Blanc (barrel sample)
Lucia chardonnay (barrel sample)
4 mile blend (a red blend that included zinfandel)
and Novy Grenache (chocolate covered cherries)

We than had with dinner
Siduri Willamette Pinot Noir
Siduri Muirfield Pinot Noir
(oven-baked wild salmon w/mushroom risotto)

Novy Sonoma Syrah
Novy Gary's Syrah
(lamb shank with polenta, parsnips and other stuff)

Siduri Gary's PN
Lucia Gary's PN
Siduri Santa Lucia PN
Lucia Santa Lucia PN
(with cheese course)

Then there was a Novy dessert wine.

The two WOTN's for our table were the Lucia Pinot Noirs. I thought each one bettered it's Siduri counterpart.
Runners up were the Novy Gary's Syrah and the Siduri Willamette PN (great QPR@$15 or so). I purchased each of these and talked to Jeff Pisoni regarding ordering his PN's.

Hope this helps. Smile

Bella Donna, if you are so inclined send me an email at some point and I'll invite you to one of our wine group tastings. We have about 25-30 members in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that meet regularly from the Wine Spectator and VinoCellar Forum.

For those of you who attended the dinner, how was it? Was it worth $115? Big Grin

I believe it is Garys' Vineyard - a vineyard named for more than one Gary - rather than the singular possessive.

Hate to be a buzz kill --

Ryan Zepeltas (one of Siduri's asst. winemakers) came to Atlanta a few weeks back. We had all of these wines (including the barrel samples) and it didn't cost us anything. There were like 25 people there, and we just split up the dinner tab.

Our dinner was $85 all-inclusive.
It was well worth it - the entree's were outstanding.

I attended the event in Houston. Shade Restaurant in Houston did a terrific job with the food. Several courses and it was all fabulous. I had never tasted Siduri wines before and was really expecting alot(maybe too much)based on previous postings and ratings on this site. I for one was very disappointed in the wines. I agree, the Lucia bottlings were the best of the bunch. Maybe Siduri didnot bring their best wines. I am not sure, but based on the tastings, I would not order any. Am I missing anything here? I forget the lineup but, it was very similar to what they poured in Austin.

KW:
Do you regularly enjoy Cali PN's in general?
Or do yo lean to the Frenchies on this varietal?

I am curious as I myself have only recently began to discover Pinot Noir in earnest.

I am still at the point wher I'll reach for a phat zin or cabernet other than a pinot.

I do enjoy Cal Pinots. Maybe my tastes lean to more over the top. I've had Seasmoke, Kosta Browne, WesMar. Ordered today some Radio-Coteau. Never had any but, ordered on reputation alone. Everyone is different. The Siduri's I tasted just didn't do it for me.

Katywiner - what table were you at at the Shade dinner? I thought the dinner and wines were very good. We were at the middle table towards the front of the restaurant.

Unfortunately my huband and I came down with food poisoning that night so it kind of dimmed my enthusiasm for the event. Frown

Winetex,

We were along the back wall in a booth with 1 othercouple. Sounds like I liked the food and you liked the wine. Hope you are feeling better.
