I'm shocked Cristiano Ronaldo did not cry after the loss. But then again, the cameras were not on him for long. Big Grin

And Croatia scores! Turkey played far better with a depleted squad than I would have ever thought.

How much do you think Croatia would have liked the Golden Goal rule to still be in place? Gutted, just gutted.

Ah, another important match being settled by the penalty kick. Maybe they should have a game of HORSE at the end of tied NBA playoff games, or a home run derby after 12 innings of a deadlocked World Series game.

Roll Eyes

Nice job soccer.

And: If the keeper almost always dives left or right, why doesn't the kicker just boot the thing up the middle? I'm just sayin'.

Games decided by penalty kicks are pretty gut wrenching. But after 2 hours of play everyone is getting shin splints, dehydrated, higher risk of injury, etc and there is no joy in watching that kind of game either.

This has now also been introduced into the NHL. There is only so much playing that can go on.

That sure won't help Hockey be anything be anything but a fringe sport (at least in the lower 50) either. Settle it on the field. You didn't see Tiger and Rocco teeing it off at the local putt putt course to settle the US Open, or witness tennis players firing tennis balls into a shopping cart to settle a deadlocked Grand Slam final.

Soccer stars are amazing athletes, slice up the oranges, open a new case of juice boxes, and let them settle it on the field, no matter how long it takes to give up a golden goal.

I agree. I love the game of football, the REAL game of futbol, but I believe that it is cheapened by using PKs as the deciding factor. Have the two 15 minute periods as they do now but then go immediately to sudden death with the first goal winning the game.

If you go back to golden goal, it would be a good idea to increase the substitutions. Personally, I like the PKs. It worked quite well at the last World Cup. Big Grin

Looks like all the underdogs are winning. Is Italy considered an underdog tomorrow?

Maybe you should rephrase that. All the second place teams have won, and Italy will make it a clean sweep tomorrow. Germany shouldn't have been an underdog, and I for one am not surprise
