Hey - thanks for the reminder. I thought the concert was great and definitely was worth it. As I said, I had never seen them in concert before, so I can't compare to any other shows, but I would like to see them again in the future.

Some highlights for me were Elevation (this hadn't been played much on Leg 1 of the tour, so I wasn't expecting it), Stuck In A Moment (also not played much in Leg 1, and this was a cool version with just Edge & Bono by themselves), Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For & Vertigo (not usually a big fan of this, but liked the energy of it live and have found myself randomly singing it since Sat night). One song that I really like but didn't as much like in concert was One.

They led off the show with mostly stuff from No Line, which is not that great to me, but the songs they did play were primarily those that I do like (I'll Go Crazy, No Line, Get On Your Boots & Moment of Surrender, among others). They closed with Moment of Surrender, which was a bit of a dull ending, even though I like the song.

All in all - a very good time. The worst part was making our way out of Soldier Field to make our way home.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I believe that they also played The Unforgettable Fire which is a favorite of mine, but hasn't been in the set list since The Joshua Tree tour.

As for One, I don't believe that it has been played in their last couple tours, but I do remember it from ZOO TV, and it was amazing - definitely one of the best songs they have ever written.

Did you know that Stuck in a Moment... was written about Michael Hutchence (from INXS)?

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the show. Smile

P.S. I don't believe we met at the CDP, did we? Red Face

They did play Unforgettable Fire and it was played at pretty much every show of Leg 1. You may already know this website, but I used this website for some great set list info.

I don't think I had heard that about the INXS singer - makes it even more intriguing. That is perhaps my favorite song.

No - I did not attend the CDP, as I was back in Detroit that weekend with my family and attending a Tigers game. I am looking forward to meet others when they are in the Chicago area, though, since I am rather new to the forums.

The Mrs and I have tickets for tomorrow's (Oct 14th) show in Houston. I have seen U2 once before (Charlotte '07) and am looking forward to this show a lot.

Everyone at my office that attended (6) last night was very disappointed, and everything I heard on the radio today was also disappointing.

Perhaps just the venue here in Dallas, and I hope others will not be as disappointed.

I heard the band had to repeatedly start songs over due to scoreboard interference. Big Grin

Seriously though, based on what I have read, the acoustics in the new stadium are terrible. I would imagine that would detract greatly from the enjoyment of the concert.

Went to the show in Dallas on Monday. Have to say it looked really great, just too bad you couldn't hear anything. I'm a HUGE U2 fan and honestly was so disappointed in the venue we're trying to get to another tour stop to hear it this time. I was completely underwhelmed with the new Cowboys Stadium in so many ways, not the least of which were the pitiful acoustics. There were a few songs I had to wait until into the first verse to know what they were playing! From our seats we could see things fine and it was obvious it would have been a fantastic show if you could hear clear enough to enjoy it. VERY disappointing - but hopefully we'll be able to catch them again before the tour is over!

Cheers, and Hook'em Horns !!

Wow, sorry to hear this.

We have a similar problem with the Energy Solutions Arena (home of the Utah Jazz). It is a great place to watch an NBA game, but a terrible venue for a concert.

Fwiw, I believe that there are still tickets available for the Phoenix show in one week.

Absolutely! I've read that they are using some "state of the art" sound system that is supposed to be designed specifically for stadium concerts...not sure what went wrong in Dallas but curious how they'll sound in Glendale's football stadium. Last time through they played in the hockey arena out there and sounded GREAT...which has nothing to do with how they'll sound in the football stadium of course.

Just back from seeing U2 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. WOW what a show! The weather cooperated allowing the show to go on with the retractable roof open. This allowed the light show to be even more spectacular.

Muse was the opening act and while I find their music interesting their sound was filled with muddy lows and a lot of "white" noise. They played well but sonically it was not good.

U2 on the other hand had a phenomenal sound (at least where I sat) with only an occasional issue with too much bass. Bono's voice was in great shape and seemed to be really enjoying himself. I'm not into U2 too much so I can't provide a setlist but suffice it to say that they played for 2 hours and 10 minutes with three encores. A truly delightful night.

I was at both of those shows and I agree, excellent. That hockey arena is a beautiful facility.

It is. Of all of the newer stadiums/arenas we've built in the last few years this is the only one they got right. Too bad they won't be playing hockey in it much longer...

Thanks for the set list. I didn't know the names of some of the songs they played (especially those from No Line On The Horizon).

For the hard core U2 fans out there, their Rose Bowl concert on 10/25 will be broadcast live on YouTube here.

Whew...I was wiped out yesterday (show ended at 11:30...got to bed about 1:30).

All in all an excellent show that, despite about 2 1/2 hours of playing time, goes by quickly. The staging is very impressive, and the circular "TV" over the stage is amazing and well-used (I won't spoil any surprises). The band sounded good and as always seemed to be really enjoying themselves - I'm always surpised at how well this band engages the audience despite some 30 or so years of touring.

It's personal preference, of course, but I wasn't crazy about the set list. Of course they played a lot of the new songs (and while I'm not a huge fan of the new album many of these songs translate better live than they do on the album), and they also selected some older songs that just don't do it for me (Walk On, In A Little While, Stuck in a Moment to name three). And they seemed a little bored when playing some of the classics (seemed like they were going through the motions on Sunday Bloody Sunday and The Unforgettable Fire). I also thought the show was a little over-produced - with all of the technology they use I suspect that everything has to fit into it's proper "time slot", so there isn't a whole of improvisation going on which is a shame because I've always felt that that was a strength of theirs. And they could have opened with a more dramatic song than Breathe and finished with something more exciting than Moment of Surrender, but it's their band and they can do what they want with it!

A note re the acoustics (which seem to have been a problem in Dallas). I thought they were fine, but they simply had the volume TOO LOUD for a partially-enclosed stadium (the roof was open but it's a pretty small window in that stadium). I could hear all of the parts, lyrics etc. but due to the sheer noise level things tended to get a bit garbled. Quite simply too much sound in too small a space - I suspect they would have sounded much better with a little less volume or if they were in a true outdoor stadium.

I also should point out that the Black Eyed Peas, while not quite my style, put on a great show that I think truly warmed eveyone up for the main act.

But with all of that said it was a great show. As a long time U2 fan I always hope for an "epic" concert out of them, which leaves me feeling almost disappointed when they are merely "excellent" (sort of like finally popping that 100 point wine only to find it showing at 98 points). Highlights for me were Where The Streets Have No Name, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Unknown Caller and City of Blinding Lights. Bono also did a beautiful rendition of MLK but cut it a little short which was a bummer. They also did Ultraviolet which I don't think I've seen before, and they did it with a nod toward the old Zoo TV/Popmart days which I thought was pretty cool

Gig, I'm sure you (and anyone who is attending a future show) will have a great time and I'm jealous...been looking forward to this show all year and can't believe it's already over. Please post your thoughts afterward!

AZCat-

Thanks for your feedback. I leave tomorrow morning for Las Vegas.

This, to me, is one of things that makes U2 one of the greatest bands of all-time; yes, even better than many of the greats from the 60s and 70s. That is to say, they still write relevant music after 30 years, unlike bands like Rolling Stones, that haven't written a relevant song in 25+ years, imo, and are nothing more than traveling nostalgia.

This is a very valid point. The amount of energy can vary from night to night, and I would become tired of playing the same songs as well. However, I am looking forward to hearing the new songs live.

Thanks again.
