Totally off-subject, but I love the Onion. The radio show, This American Life, did a piece on the Onion. It revealed how they determined the headlines and stories for the publication. They essentially sit around a table and everyone calls out a list of their headlines. If more 2 or more approve, it moves on to the next round. Ira Glass (the host of show) made the point that the headlines that get the most laughs usually don't make it. They ran a list of ones that didn't make the cut and some were hilarious. One that I remember:

"Cardinal teaches Pope how to make church with fingers."

One of my personal favorites is "Meth addicts demand government address nation's growing spider menace."

Lentini,

I am only in about 100+ pages, but the book is essentially about "the Americas." There has already been discussion of life in Greenland, South America, Canada, all the way down to the Carlinas and some discussion of the trips taken by prominent Indians to Europe, sometimes by choice, other times not.

“The Coldest Winter” by David Halberstam. Amazingly there are not that many books on the Korean War as compared to the much larger set of reading available on the Vietnam War. If you’re looking for one of if not they most comprehensive books on the subject of the Korean War then this book is for you. Clocking in at a little over 650 pages in the hard cover edition this weighty tome covers everything from the battles to MacArthur’s effect before, during and after the war, the Soviets influence, China’s Role (ad nauseum) and on and on and on. Well written and thorough to beat the band I felt it dragged on at times but a decent read nonetheless.

The Science of Wine: From Vine to Glass by Jamie Goode. Nice little intro to wine science, but gets confusing for those of us without a science background at times.

“Emperor. The Gates of Rome” by Conn Iggulden. This was an entertaining novel based on the life of Julius Caesar from adolescence through early adulthood. As the book states very little is known about his life in those early years but many of the events and details would be typical of that era. Quite interesting. I’ll likely read the next book in the series as a result.

Just finished “La Bella Figura. A Field Guide to the Italian Mind” by Beppe Severgnini. Kind of a strange read most likely due to being written in Italian originally and translated to English. Can't say I'd recommend it myself.

I recently finished "World without End" by Ken Folliet.

I'm currently on "The Princes of Ireland" by Edward Rutherfurd. I've already read his "the Rebels of Ireland".

All three are geat books.

Just started "The House of Mondavi" last night.

Have "Generation Kill" on order.

I'm pretty sure they're not connected in any way. Smile
