I think any person running for leadership of a large country is entitled not have any idea of how many homes they own. Or how many men or women they've slept with recently.

Can you imagine how low the calibre of political leaders would be if there were no perks?

He came across as a real boob on that answer. Geez. Sometimes when he thinks too much about the answer he really sounds bad. McCain is best shooting from the hip. Reset...."You'd have to ask my wife as most of them are hers". Still sounds silly, but not nearly as bad. I mean WOW!!

He was asked how many homes he owned. Not how many parcels of real property. So, the question is, "What is a home?" If you own a house and rent it out and don't live there- is that a home? Is it your home or the tenant's home, or both, perhaps?
And, if you own an apartment in Manhattan, and stay there perhaps 2 weekends a year, is that a "home" for purposes of the journalist's question?
And, if the homes were mortgaged, do you really own them? And if your wife paid for them, is it your home if it is titled only in her name?
So, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, it depends on what the definition of "home" is.

Clearly he must be unfit to hold office as his father in law worked hard and lived out the American dream of bettering himself and his family.

My point exactly, just answer the question honestly. He stands less of a chance of looking silly.

I like McCain's ad in response to obama's childish little attempt at a "gotcha." Over the next few days, obama and his group of democrat retread hacks will rue the day they started a conversation on the real estate holdings of his opponent. Can Rezko be reached for comment on his involvement in getting boy wonder his house, or is he already in prison?

Eek Cool Razz

It does seem like all too much bumbling. But it's really the media reporting on him not knowing the number. The Obama spin is that McCain is therefore out of touch with the common man. That's also a bit weak, but it's not out-and-out stupid.

I hate attack ads as they add nothing of substance to the issues. Tearing down the other guy is just taking the easy/lazy road. (And yeah, I know they work. They work only because the majority of voters are easily swayed, feeble, drooling idiots.) Why does it always have to be the lesser of two evils? I almost can't remember voting for somebody I actually liked.

Very true, but unfortunately it is the way The Game is played, and the only people lazier than the candidates are the voters.

<big sigh>

If the number of homes one owns, or one's ability to recall all of his real estate holdings is supposed to imply arrogance, elitism or the fact the one is "out of touch," the people who believe this are out of touch. Honestly, who seems more elitist and status seeking, boy wonder or Senator McCain? Boy wonder is an elitist of the first order, without the net worth or accomplishments to justify being one.

In my mind, I have responded to this. Oh my goodness... I can hear the devil telling me to post, and feel several angels just trying to yank me away from the computer.

Ok, you know what...

Exactly how does getting shot down qualify as an accomplishment?

I can see the marrying rich part; that is something I'd like to do as well. In fact, I'd prefer to marry a woman with over a hundred million dollars as opposed to work my way from nothing to be editor of the Harvard Law Review then a professor at the University of Chicago. Then again, I'm an asshole and I shouldn't be President.

....

EDIT: Ok, for the record, I actually have a lot of respect for McCain, particularly for what he went through in the Vietnam era and for what he tried to do in 2000. But I just found cdr's post so absurd that the devil won out.

Is "elitist" the new GOP buzzword this year? Like LIBERAL was 4 years ago? Are they saying the GOP is the party of the common man? The poor folks who make less than $5 mil a year?
How come I didn't get the memo?
