Some good candidates here. Of those I've rewatched recently, The Bob Newhart Show still holds up. I haven't watched the original WKRP in Cincinati for quite a while but that was tremendous.

My favourites are - in no particular order

South Park
Coupling - first 3 seasons of UK version. The US remake sucked and the last UK season wasn't a patch without Jeff.
Spaced - You probably haven't seen it, but if you liked Sean Of The Dead you'd love it.
Look Around You
Yes [Prime] Minister - Still so accurate after all these years
Monty Python - not really a sit-com but surely worthy of a mention

Tanglenet, SCTV was tremendous. Certainly top 10 for me, had I widened the parameters from sit-com only.

SCTV was fabulous. I still laugh at some of the skits, even though I haven't seen any since it was on.

Which also reminds me to add another British show:

Absolutely Fabulous - unique and preposterous characters in cartoon situations. My type of humor.

Pauly, I'm excited to see you listed the Goodies. As a little girl in Iowa, PBS aired old episodes on Saturday nights. I was allowed to stay up to watch the Goodies and it was the highlight of the week. My 8 year-old self adored the episode in which they got trapped in their apartment for eternity and went a bit mad.

Got to You Tube. I was on there a few weeks ago and they have whole skits on there. Sammy Maudlin show, Bobby Bittman and This one when Bobby shows bloopers from his special - it is hysterical, tiny town where they visit a prison LOL. I was up late for sure.

The Goodies were repeated often on Aussie TV in the after school hours and are a well established institution here. I've got the DVDs they've released and the shows are still side splittingly funny. My favourite was Ecky Thoomp, the Lancastrian martial art.

I think Three's Company was the funniest and my favorite show.

Then, Married...With Children

I didn't want to insult Luc, so I refrained from posting a response to his choices. Big Grin

I agree with you on every part of this Dave.

There are many good ones listed here, but I haven't seen anyone mention Blackadder. Just thinking about it while typing it makes me laugh. I think this was Rowan Atkinson at his best.

Personally I never liked Seinfeld but then it is probably because I didn't like Kramer or Elaine.

My list for the criteria of those that will stand up to the test of time are:

I Love Lucy
MASH
The Odd Couple
Taxi
The Flintstones
The Honeymooners

BTW. Do you know what was the first prime time TV show to show a married couple sleeping together in the same bed?

the Flintstones

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Brady Bunch or Bob Newhart? Just the first 2 that popped in my head.

I'd love to have slept in the same bed with Suzanne Pleshette myself! What an older woman hottie she was. Smile

According to snopes.com
"Mary Kay and Johnny" made its debut on November 18, 1947. This predates the Flintstones by over twelve years.

Of course, this says "portrayed". I don't know if they actually ever showed them in bed. Did the Flintstones actually show Fred and Wilma in bed together? I don't remember.

MASH
Cheers!
Three's Company (because of the chicks)
Drew Carey was funny for the 1st couple of seasons.

Wings(not a top 10, but I loved it.)

There were a couple of episodes I liked on Seinfeld. But for the most part I thought the show was very annoying. I couldn't stand George's character. Maybe it was good acting...

Saturday Night Live has been hysterical at times and at other times merely funny or boring. But during its prime, IMHO, it was the funniest show on television.
