Let's have some fun here. For me, the best comedy shows are the ones that were not only great when they were on, but will still be or are still funny years later and one you can watch the same episode of 10 times and still crack up. Let's keep it to Sit-Com's.
Tough to list candidates, but my basis will be my fav's and enough of others, that while I didn't watch them - deserve respect to be listed (ie: I love lucy, Everybody loves raymond). I left out mash, as I don't consider that a sit com. I also left out cult favs of mine like Police Squad and such, so go easy on me. I'm sure I'll leave someones favorite out, but what can I tell you? Just choose "other". Feel free to list your own top 5 or so after voting. My vote would go to Seinfeld. The smartest, funnniest, most consistant show ever IMO. So, if pressed - my top 5 would be: 1. Seinfeld 2. Honeymooners Left a space, because everything else is a distant 3rd in my book. 3. Odd Couple 4. Mary Tyler Moore 5. Green Acres/Taxi TIE |

Funny show (or used to be), but I consider that a billionaire whiny docu-comedy. |

I don't think anything touches Seinfeld. My #2- South Park. Every episode makes me laugh, then leaves me upset that I laughed and then makes me laugh again.
----- I think my new thing will be to try to be a real happy guy. I'll just walk around being real happy until some jerk says something stupid to me. |

No South Park. Another flawed poll.

All polls are flawed, except the North and the South. |

How do you not consider one of the best Comedy shows ever to be on TV not a Sit Com???
Next you will just be saying crazy stuff like "Bella knows how to cook, She did my grandmothers meetballs better then my own grandmother does them." pissing people off since 1971! I could never really get into MASH. I always wanted them to kill off Alan Alda with a stray shell or bullet.
B.J. Hunnicut was a good name. He sucked as a replacement. <edit> The movie was genius though. -------------------- "One may dislike carrots, spinach, beetroot, or the skin on hot milk. But not wine. It is like hating the air that one breathes, since each is equally indispensable." Marcel Ayme` |

Another missing piece. "Da Ali G Show".
Not a sitcom but much funnier than the list provided. -------------------- "One may dislike carrots, spinach, beetroot, or the skin on hot milk. But not wine. It is like hating the air that one breathes, since each is equally indispensable." Marcel Ayme` |

Using the criteria of sitcoms that hold up well over time, here's my top five:
1. Frasier 2. All in the Family 3. I Love Lucy 4. Cheers 5. (With a shout out to our friend, Thurston) Gilligan's Island (Who doesn't remember the words to the 'Hamlet' musical when Herald Hecuba (aka Phil Silvers) landed on the island?) As to Frasier being my #1 choice, granted there were some weak episodes and a couple of lame seasons. But after 11 years, there's bound to be. I recently bought the last season on dvd, and laughed so much I could hardly see the tv because of the tears in my eyes. I guess I relate somewhat to Frasier and Niles, having tastes somewhat more esoteric than my upbringing allowed for. This message has been edited. I think the best acted show was "The Odd Couple," best written was "Seinfeld," and the best character ever in a sitcom was Danny DeVito as Louie DePalma on "Taxi."
Just one more sip. |

Gotta agree with Louie DePalma, although Reverend Jim had his moments also. *********** You never see crazy people walking the streets, screaming about atheism, do you? |

Agree with grun on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Honorable mention to The Larry Sanders Show. Very similar type of comedy! Early Family Guy was right up there too. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Instant Access, |

I'm too young for most of those....
My current fav is American Dad. Friggin hilarious! Also like South Park, Family guy, Married with Children, Seinfield, and the new show Till Death is pretty funny. I love Lucy and the Simpsons are up there too. Given the choices above, I think I'll pick I love Lucy. |

I'm partial to The Office and the first couple of seasons of Arrested Development. I grew up watching Mary Tyler Moore, All in the Family and Taxi and the like and they are the tv version of comfort food for me.
