Indigo Grill, in the downtown area.

My girlfriend and I just got back from a long weekend and had three dinners down in/near the gaslamp.

Taka (sushi), average, but they had pretty good toro.

Candelas (upscale Mexican). Appetizers were just okay, but our shrimp entrees were very good.

Indigo Grill (Pacific Rim/Southwestern). The best meal in recent memory, a joy to eat/look at, plus the wine menu was well thought out and included ample by-the-glass options. And, we went on Monday, typically an off restaurant night.

I have been wanting to try that place (Indigo Grill) for a long time. It is part of the Cohn Restuarant group. Most of their places are pretty nice.

I find Deborah Scott's cooking too ambitious for the plate. I don't like anything in the Cohn group.

Also if you're a history buff you can eat on the USS Midway. Its a decent snack stand - fish tacos, caprese salad, etc.

We were all raised being told that Jesus loved the little children. Yes, but he never had to dine with one.. he chose the lepers instead.

Best sushi place I found in SD area was Sushi Ota in Mission Bay, but that was a few years ago.

Edited to fix my spelling error, like I said it's been a few years. I was debating between Oto and Ota, just couldn't remember.

I like Indigo grill. Much better than Kemo Sabe or Island Prime (Deborah Scott's other joints). I am glad you liked it. Blue Point is another pretty good Cohn group restaurant. Otherwise, I have to agree with Mr. Cabernet - they mostly suck (especially the Prado).

Sorry you had a mixed experience at Candela's. I have had some memorable dining experiences there. It has been a while, though. I will have to revisit soon.

Agree with Foghorn about Sushi Ota. Poway Sushi lounge and Shien of Osaka are pretty good up in my neighborhood.

Mr. Cabernet,

Sorry you don't like her cooking, but I find it hard to believe that you've been to Indigo. For the record, we had the grilled romaine appet., the Good things Growing and Salmon entrees, and a fantastic molten chocolate cake for dessert.

Red Guy, at Candelas, the camaron entrees were fantastic, but the Cuernavaca Salad was average, and the black bean soup tasted not much different than a can of refried frijoles negros.
