We're seriously considering heading to Cozumel this winter with the kids (16 & 8). Any suggestions from those who've gone?
All inclusives or not?
Dinner musts?
Diving, etc?
Is it worth it or is it a 'pass'?

Never been to Cozumel, but have been on several "family" vacations to that general part of the world in the winter, both with mine, and with my ex's.

Just rhowing it out there... I would reccomend thinking about Playa del Carmen / the Mayan Riviera. I have no idea what it would be like for an 8 year old, though there were deffinitely 8yos running around seeming to be having fun while I was there. But I think a 16yo would really dig it. As would you.

I was there about 10-12 years ago. Really enjoyed it. It's much quieter and layed back then Cancun. We stayed at an all-inclusive probably 10 or so miles from San Miguel, so didn't have a lot around it at the time. I don't usually like all-inclusives, but it worked out well in this case. We did go into town at least one night for dinner, but can't remember details of where.

I'm not sure how built up it is today, but as far as the kids are concerned, I think it will depend on your kids..We enjoyed snorkeling (not divers) at the beach we were staying at as well as at Chankanaab National Park, but really weren't looking for a lot of outside attractions. You could take day trips to the mainland, Cancun, etc, though if you were looking for something to do. But like I said, we were mainly there to plop on the beach and sip umbrella drinks.

I'd strongly advise against it. Yes, the snorkeling is pretty good; there's a twin engine plane under 45 feet of water by one of the hotels that's great to look at. The place is rife with beggars, people pestering you to buy trinkets, shoe lace bracelets, etc. The restaurants are mostly poor.

Almost any Caribbean island will be better.

Just one more sip.

The diving and snorkeling are terrific, but alas, the dining is not so good. If diving is a priority Cozumel is worthy of consideration.

Look into C. America, less money, way less dumb ass tourist and more to see in the way of authentic.

Cool Was there several years ago. A place that seemed to attract much of the college crowd...
