Scotty Cameron putters are fantastic, but a little pricey. I'm looking at the new two bar styles. My uncle swears by it. I think his is a Dana Ogilvey or something like that.

Most of the Cameron's are great. The exception I've found was the Red X2 with the center shaft. I tried it for months but the alignment aids just didn't work for me on short putts but it was great on distance controll. I finally went back to my old Taylor Made Rossa Modena Daytona but if I do try a new putter, and I do almost every spring, the Cameron's are high on my list. The Circa 62's are great looking clubs.

Of course the best way to avoid this is to keep the same tempo and take a longer stroke, but that's harder for most guys.

GPN, thanx for the tip, but this is a technique I already use. I'm deadly accurate from 8 feet in. It's the 15+ feet putts that sometimes get me. I think my problem on the long putts is definitely tempo and I do need to take a longer stroke. Of course, sometimes I TOTALLY misread the putt anyway, so no putter is ever gonna help. But I still wanna buy a new golf toy. That's the good thing about the LCBO: you can return bottles of wine for golf clubs. No questions asked.

Quite a showing by Tiger this weekend at the Buick. They better toughen up that course by the time the U.S. Open rolls around. I just hope the USGA doesn't turn it into another impossible miniature golf course like they have done to a few recently. Who want's to watch the best in the world beat it around like a bunch of Saturday afternoon greens fees out there? Not me, that's for sure. I think the British open has it right, if players/equipment are that much better these days and weather allows it whats wrong with a winning score a few shots under par?

What would be a bigger sports accomplishment, the Patriots going 19-0 or Tiger winning all four majors in a season? Hard to compare individual vs team accomplishment but I think I'd have to go with the Grand Slam on that one, if it is ever done.

Hey Ice, I agree with the grand slam being harder than going 19-0 but its tough to compare the two sports, you are right. Im biased too, being a avid golfer and not a football player.

I think the other way about the course set up however. I think the harder and longer it is the easier it is for Tiger to win because iteliminates a slew of guys. I think he has proven that a few times already.

But lets face it, the guy is not human plain and simple, so regardless of the way the course plays he will almost always be the favorite.

I also feel that even par or a few shots under would be a satisfying score for any major.

On a seperate note, can frickin spring get here soon enough or what? Im dying over here.

When the us open rolls around I'm sure they will grow the rough really thick because even at the buick open where tiger has won four years in a row on basically his home course he still misses alot of fairways, but I'm sure he will find a way maybe hitting alot of 3 woods off the tee. Razz

For a putter, you can't go wrong with a Tad Moore. He's the guy that taught Scotty Cameron how to make putters.

it will be thick but not like last year at Oakmont... the USGA has already come out and said they got a little carried away, which im sad to say, is an amazing concession from them, though its probably tongue in cheek to the players. where its really going to be difficult compared to the Buick is the area around the greens.

i dont know how many of you saw the final round but Tiger came up just short of the green on #18 with his 2nd shot approach, the area is a relatively steep face above water guarding the green. that area is traditionally rough and i know the USGA is considering making it all fairway, i.e., Tiger's ball last weekend would probably have rolled into the water with that kind of condition, etc... i think we'll see alot of areas around the green that are traditionally 1st & 2nd cut trimmed to the fairway cut so that balls just off the green dont hang and will drop down to make for interesting chips since the greens will also play faster... the greens were running about a '10' on the stimp meter, the USGA wants them at about a '13' for the Open.

I second that, as I sit here staring out the window at sleet and snowflakes the size of golf balls. What a messy afternoon around these parts Frown I'm gonna have to go to the heated bays sometime, let's hope the groundhog does whatever he does to get spring here soon.

Still playing my old Cleveland TA-3 irons that have to be at least 8 years old now. Still love these irons, and still cannot find anything to replace them. Bertha driver and Bertha 4+ in the bag...Cleveland 485 wedge and a White Hot putter.

Handicap down to 11 this year already, and got my first hole in one yesterday in the sweltering Jersey heat! Good times! -mJ

Congrats on the hole in one MJ.

I got one about 10 years ago with my daughter riding along. The people on the tee ahead started screaming, and then I started screaming too. My daughter just looked at me and said "why are you so happy, isn't that what you're supposed to do?"

Thanks lostverse! That is too damn funny! I can't tell you how many times I came within inches on 4 and 6 at Golf Club of Illinois. Used to play there damn near every day back in '92-94. Never got close on 13 thought...came close on one of the Par 3's at Boulder Ridge too, but I forget what hole it was. So many great courses out there. Barrington Hills CC was my home course, and my old company had memberships at Wynstone and Gendale Club. I was also a member at Stonehenge in Barrington. Great little course for about $300 a year I think, but 6 year waiting list to get in. Worth every penny though!

Have they built any new courses in the area? -mJ

That is funny. I live in the subdivision on the west side of GCI, although I doubt it was there back in '92-'94.

I'm not sure when you left the area, but you could play a different course just about every day and not be disappointed in the quality of play. Friends of mine actually bought GCI a few years ago, so that is where I usually play. The first thing they did after buying the place was to get rid of all the knee-high crap on all the mounds. It made it easier to play, but it also took off about 2 hrs a round for players looking for their ball. They've also rerouted the back nine, so that the old 13 is now the 11th. But no, I've never come close to hitting that bad boy in two.

I think I know exactly what subdivision you are talking about. I didn't actually leave the area until the Spring of 2002, and actually lived right off of Rakow Road. Rumor has it they are moving Rakow Road as the plans to extend the runway at L.I.T.H. Airport (3CK) finally got approved.

Can't believe they cut down the knee high grass! I bet that the handicaps there at the club went down a tad now. Wink That did indeed make it hard to find your ball though.

The closest I ever came to hitting the monster in 2 was probably about 20 yards on a dry August day with a nice breeze behind my back. That hole is nuts. Plays 690 or something ridiculous from the back doesn't it? I played many of rounds on that course. Fun place, but always so hot in the summer with no shade.

Probably played every course within an hour of there...Terrace Hill, Pinecrest, Bonnie Dundee, Chalet Hills(loved this course), Kemper, Red Tail, the little 9 hole course at Route 14 and 31, Randall Oaks, Craig Woods, Prairie Isle, Whisper Lane in Marengo, etc. Lots of fun courses over that way! Need to grab the wife and the sticks and head home for a long weekend of golf!

Any decent wine shops in that area yet? Seems like back in the day it was just Teddy's and Cardinal in Crystal Lake. I heard there were a few decent shops out on Randall now, and heard that Barrington has a nice new shop downtown. What are your thoughts on the stores in the area? Thanks! -mJ

Yeah, I am still playing my Callaway X-20 tour irons with 5.5 Rifle shafts, Callaway FT-5 driver, Callaway Hybrids, Vokey wedges, Cameron Putter. I wont be switching either, shot my best round in a Pro-Am Monday.....65... woohoo!! The funny thing about my round is I had a deuce (gross) on a par 4 (always helps the score) and it got cut by another 2 (gross) which took away a very lucrative skin....funny game huh? Hit them straight everyone Smile
