I was playing golf with my son in Florida in December. There's a 231 yard par 4 on this course. It deserves to be a par 4 because it's a 90 degree dogleg to the left. There is a row of high trees right next to the tee running all the way to the bend. God couldn't hit over the trees so you must go the long way. Well, I used to be a good golfer but don't play too much anymore, but I can still hook a ball very sharply if I try. (I can't always hit it straight.)

This day, I started the ball out the right a little and hooked it really sharply. You can't see the green so we had to wait til we walked out to the bend to see where the ball wound up. Well, it was on the green, 15 feet from the pin. Yeah, I triple-putted it and my son said to me when I sunk the third putt, "Nice par, Dad." Wiseguy

Just one more sip.

My office is literally 0.4 miles from the front entrance of our club and 2 miles from my house. I have a nasty commute to work and to the golf course. I play at least twice per week, and usually 3 or 4.

My USGA index is 6.9, but the standard deviation is pretty big. I played with MarkieMark last week and shot a smooth 89. The week before I shot 80-82-78-80-82.

Finally a thread I care about

Driver - Ping G5, 13.5 degrees, graffaloy blue stiff shaft
7W - Mizuno Steel
Irons (3I-PW) - Cleveland CG4 Tours, frequency-matched stiff steel shafts, stiff
Wedges -
Cleveland 54 degree (medium bounce)
Mizuno 56 degree sand wedge (bent to 58 Degrees)
Cleveland 60 degree (low bounce) bent to 62 degrees
Bobby Grace Putter (it has some sexy name that I can't remember)
ProV1x balls

Yes, it's nice to see the occaisional worthwhile thread on this board! Currently playing to around a 13 index.

My irons are from Le Master, a company where my dad knew the owner. These were custom made for me about 28 years ago based on my wristy, whippy swing at the time. I keep threatening to get new clubs, but I worry that my ingrained swing would not be suited to real clubs.

My woods are a hodge-podge that I picked up from Price Club around 8 to 10 years ago as my old Spalding half woods started to shatter. I still have my 2 1/2 wood that I set aside after all of the others bit the dust.

My treasured putter I also inherited from my dad after he was done with it. An old Ping B68 Ball-Namic, which is probably about as old as I am. I also still use these ugly knitted head covers that my grandmother made many years ago. Sadly, they are going downhill fast.

However, I do not use 20-year old golf balls. Although some of the balls I have lurking in my bag might be that old! Red Face

Woods: Callaway Steelhead Big Bertha's (old)
Irons: TaylorMade Rac Irons (R Steel Shafts)
Wedges: Cleveland Rusty's
Putter: Titleist
Ball: Whatever is handy and decent
HandiCap: 16-18
Home Course: Storey Creek
Rounds per year: 12-16 (average)

Had an old set of Titleist DCI Irons for years, but my wife won the TM Rac Irons in a draw last year (golf tourney)...then bought herself a complete set of Adams clubs.
The wife is a 12-14 hcp...kicks my butt most of the time...she plays 4-5 days a week.

I used to play a lot...got my hcp down to 12, but came to the conclusion working that hard at a GAME wasn't much fun.
Now I mostly ocean kayak, and play the odd round with the wife and/or friends for FUN.

I was playing with my regular partner. He took a 9 on a par 5, after hooking three shots into some water.
Next hole: 185 yard par 3. He hits a 7 iron, and it flies to the green, bounces, and rolls in for an ace.
I said, "Paul....I have never seen a hole-in-one after a 9."
Sweet.

Sounds like a strong 3-wood. My driver is 9.5 and there are times when I wish it was less.

Mine is 8.5 but G&PN hits the G5 a mile, 13.5 degrees and all.

the club my family joined is just as close to my office, when i play, i can see my work from certain spots on the course... i dont know if that part is a good thing Wink but you have me beat from home, i'm about 8 miles Big Grin from both and, for the last 8 months have been getting out as frequently as you... we just joined this last year so if i dont improve over the next few years i have no excuse...

terrible, i dont know why i agreed to that lesson, my USGA went from a 22 to a little over 16 in 2006, since that grip change in December, its gone back up to a 20... Frown

Fat Lady Swings?

I am lucky enough that I can pull my golf cart out of the garage and be at the club in three minutes. The fact that Dom and Vin are almost four makes it difficult on playing. But I am very much looking forward to this summer as DnVsMom and I already have them on the range "hitting bombs" and on the putting green.

I was a 7 before the boys came along and am now back and forth between a 10 and a 12. 80 can be followed by 95 at any time. Just like a birdie can be followed by a triple. Just not playing enough.

As for my equipment:

Taylor Made R7 425 driver
Taylor Made 540DX three wood
Taylor Made R7 five wood
Taylor Made Burner seven wood
Mizuno MX-23 Irons
Titleist Vokey 52, 56, and 60 degree oil can wedges
I just put a new Odyssey White Hot putter in my bag after putting with a Taylor Made Monza Rossa putter for awhile
Titleist Pro-V1x golf balls - made even sweeter that I get them free because of DnVsMom's job...

handicap (dormant right now given the season) is 7,6

all stiff shaft:
driver - taylor made R7 325 - weights set to first fade bias
13 degree orlimar tri metal
16 degree adams original tight lies (steel)
22 degree titleist rescue
4-PW titleist 962B (26 degree through 51 degree in 4 degree increments (except for PW at 5 degree))
56/8 cleveland
60/12 vokey
putter - scotty cameron studio

use ProV1 and ProV1x - altho tend to play better with ProV1.

game has slid off recently, as low as 4,8 at one time. ditto on the 71, and 33 lowest nine.

I used to be able to hit my 15 degree 3-wood 300 yards off the tee, thin air helps.

Nice!! I have hit some of these right handed and those are sweet. Being LH I haven't really tried to track any down.

Well....being LH and the pricetag. My short game is probably the best part of my game. I love my wedges (that's not wedgees Smile ). Why spend a bunch of money to ruin a good thing? I know, it could be even better, but.......

Your home course must be a LOT easier Wink

We'll see in a couple of weeks. And, while I appreciate the kind words about my driver (and also appreciate your failure to mention my 100-yard duck hook drive on the first hole), I only really hit my driver about 1/5 of a mile. Big Grin

Shot an 80 today from the tips, by the way.

80 from the tips? I rest my case, counselor Wink

Shot an 82 from the blues yesterday. That's equivalent to your tips, right? Big Grin

G&PN: Thanks for the bottle! Very generous of you! Smile

As I recall though, I lost the bet. Did we carry it over to the rematch? Confused

Do you guys in Atlanta have a suggestion for a course to play in the Alpharetta (sp?) area while I am visiting with my wife's family. In this case, slow play is not a bad thing and a good wine list would help.

Handicap: 4
Driver: Taylor Made R7
Fairway woods: Titleist (15 & 19 degree loft)
hybrid: Mizuno (23 degree loft)
irons: Titleist 792 (2 thru wedge but no 3)
SWedge: Vokey (56 degree)
Putter: Odyssey 2 Ball
Ball: ProV1
