I know there are some Texans on here. En route from Denver to Miami I am going to be stopping for a night in Dallas. I need a good rec for some good BBQ!
I am going to be driving from Denver - down through Amarillo and then on to Dallas. We will probably be getting in around 7 or 8pm and don't have reservations so we can stay wherever.
Also, is there anything at all (even tacky roadside attractions) in between Amarillo and Dallas?

That makes it a little more difficult. As incredible as it sounds most BBQ places in the area are either not open for dinner or they close on the early side. The original Sonny Bryan's on Inwood at Harry Gines closed at 4PM each day. The other locations close around 8:30-9:00PM varying by location.
Railhead in Fort Worth (my local favorite) I believe closes around 9PM as well. If you're driving from Denver->Amarillo->Dallas you could likely taje Hwy 287 from Amarillo to the DFW area which would put you just north of the Railhead in Fort Worth. You could eat there first and then go find a hotel wherever.
Can't recall much to see and do on that drive other than basic scenery.
When are you doing this?

If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Maybe I will check that out then and hit FW. We are leaving Denver early Sat am and should be nearing Dallas around dinner time.

I actually just got a new client in Dallas and a big case with them so I should be there quite a bit in the coming months. We should pop and pour for sure.
Whenever you're heading to town either post in the offline section or just send me an email at joe dot dulworth at airmail dot net and we'll definitely throw together an offline.

Ended up pulling in to Forth Worth and ate at Angelo's. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING bbq.
On another note, the drive from Amarillo to Forth Worth is just plain awful. We did, however, get our picture taken with a 30 foot cowboy in Witchita Falls!
