My wife and I are running the 10k trail race in Calistoga on March 24th and some friends of ours will be coming along. We're thrilled to have them, but there's a clincher: they MUST bring their dog. Now, don't get me wrong: I am DEFINITELY a dog person. However, I'm having a tough time finding a place that is difinitively dog-friendly. We don't have to stay right in Calistoga, but something within 30 minutes or so would be ideal.
Have you stayed at a dog-friendly place around the Napa Valley? Anyone?  Cheers! |

Not me. If they allow animals, I'd have no interest in staying there. I have a nose.

May I ask? Why do they have to bring their dog on vacation? There are countless high quality boarding kennels that can attend to almost any need a pet may have.

Many people think of their pet as an actual member of the family. It is their "child" if you will. Leaving him/her in some strange kennel would be an abomination and unthinkable, considering the fact that their pet probably sleeps in the same bed with them, and is probably cleaner than most people. |

I 100% recommend this place:
Washington Street Lodging There are about 6 cottages here. Great communal patio with a fire pit for a group, there's a park just down the street for dog walking (I saw locals there with their dogs) and the cottages are NOT doggy polluted (that one was for BoardO). Stayed there with our 2 labs last Fall. Backs up to the Napa River (they call that a river??). |

If you go to Yahoo Travel, you can enter whatever town you are interested in, and when you click on accomodations, it links to (at the top, under "amenities") the places that are pet-friendly.
There are 3 in Calistoga, and 2 in St. Helena, for example. |

Evening Magazine on KING-5 did a feature about a year ago on some funky little B&B down there that encouraged pets. Very artsy-craftsy place. Wish I could be of more help, but I sure can't remember the name of it. *********** You never see crazy people walking the streets, screaming about atheism, do you? |

You will want to look for cottages or condos to rent that are dog friendly. There are a lot of them there. Hotels that are dog friendly are harder to find..unless you want to stay at a motel 6.
There is also a website called dogfriendly.com or something like that that lists all pet friendly accomodations. Google "dogfriendly accomodatiuons Napa" or something similar. |

i am a napa valley local doing dog boarding in my house for over ten years. Now under the name DoggyLand, we serve the whole wine country. We only take about 6 dogs max. You can find a little write up on Craig's List. It is[I] a dog kennel[I], but don't use any cages! Your dog is just welcome as though he or she is a member of our little family. All the dogs are socialized and freindly. By appoinment only call Lisa and Rex at 707-252-0345

Now "Ruff" is a doggy hotel in town, with suites, bottled water, a fully equiped playground and even a penthouse or two. Ha, what a riot. I board dogs because I really enjoy being with them. It fights my depression, encourages me to walk and I make a little money too!  |

He wasn't really looking for your opinion, but a place to stay. That said I can't stand pet friendly hotels and note that the trend seems to be growing. |

I live an hour away, and visit Napa often for overnight sojourns. We stay at the Washington St. Lodging place mentioned above every time, with our two dogs. The place is great. Clean, relatively spacious, friendly, great location. Oh, and completely affordable, to boot.

I had dogs growing up. Two pugs in fact from the time I was five untill I left home at eighteen. I loved the dogs but come on it must be a california fufu thing if you can't kennel or leave your dog or dogs with neighbors or relatives to go on a weekend trip. People worship their dogs and treat them better than they would treat other human beings. I find this kind of sick.

Wow. You managed to insult Californians and dog owners who have different views from you in one sentence. Just because someone chooses to treat their animal in a different way than you would, doesn't mean they treat human beings less. I normally feel that if you don't have anything positive to add, why comment? Your post just pushed me over the edge. BTW, if you "had dogs from five until you left home at 18" you didn't have dogs, your parents did. It's like saying you had kids because you had a sibling. So, I am going to try and go back to my original idea of not posting unless I have something positive to add. I hope maybe you will do the same.

When one of my pugs named chester ran away we put an add in the paper for a reward when I was eleven years old and someone found him and I paid it out of the money I made from my paper route. I was in charge of my dog and when it came time to put him to sleep I had to do it. It just seems over the top for what people with alot of money will spend to pamper their dog when others in america are just trying to get by.

This seems pretty nice and is priced really well. I am heading to napa in June and have this place in mind. However, is there only the communal patio? I don't mind people but since I am going with my girlfriend I would like a private outdoor area. Are there private patios on the other side? Edit: Looks like they have private patios as well. How far is Calistoga from downtown Napa? Is this too far out of the way if I am going to be taking a taxi to the wineries? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sticky2, |
