Not sure where that is, but one of the finest places that I've been in Atlanta is Rathbun's. Lots of great places to wine and dine in Atlanta, but this one is at the top. The wine list, while good, pales to the food.

Canoe, also in the Vinings. Other options close to the Cobb Center are SoHo and Old Vinings Inn. Hooters is close too. I should add, nothing is going to be within walking distance like you might hope for in a downtown setting. Well actually Hooters may be withing walking distance. You won't go wrong with Canoe.

What snipes said - except for that Hooters rec. ;-) Rathbun’s is great, but it’s intown, and you will be no where near it.

Thanks, Everyone! Don't think the in-laws would appreciate Hooters, but will check out the other suggestions. BTW, mapquest says Bones is within 10 miles. Hubby raves about it, but would love the locals thoughts.

Bones is my favorite steak house in the ATL. It may be 10 miles, but it can be a looong 10 miles depending on traffic. If you are outside of weekday rush hour it's doable if steak is what your after. Stoney River is a steak house outside the Cobb Galleria mall that is very close to the theater. It wouldn't be my first choice if looking for something with personality, but the steaks and service were good the one time I went there.

I'm glad to see nobody recommended two vastly over-rated restaurants- Seeger's and Bacchanalia. Avoid them at all costs. South City Kitchen was far better.
Just one more sip.

Hi Snipes, I really like the looks of Canoe, but Bones is still in the running. We are flying in and landing at ATL at 3PM on a Saturday. Will check into the hotel and then head to the restaurant for an early (5PM) dinner We have an 8PM John Prine show. Will the time constraints be an issue for either location/restaurant on a Saturday evening? Thanks, JJ

5pm at Canoe would be no problem. If it were me, I'd feel a little rushed at Bones under those time constraints if you are doing a full on dinner with multiple wines and dessert, etc. I think you are looking at 2 hours minimum followed by a 20-30 minute drive discounting event traffic. I don't want to steer you away because I love the place and I'm sure you would as well. Bones is very accommodating, I'd suggest a quick phone call and get their opinion. Good luck and please post a follow up after the event.

We have decided on Canoe, but their earliest resv is 5:30. I sent a note asking if that was enough time. If it is, I will post a follow up in May. Thanks again!

I'm glad to hear everyone enjoyed Canoe. It's one of our favorite Atlanta restaurants. What did you think of the new Cobb performing arts center? It's maybe a year old and I haven't been there yet.
