The Yankees have proven they are the best team in baseball. Will they win the World Series? Probably not. They are more likely to win it than anyone else, but the winner will have to win three consecutive short series. Any hot or lucky team in the playoffs can win it.
Just one more sip.

As much as I can't stand him (for reasons other than the $$ - I never liked him even when he was in Seattle), I have to admit he is one helluva player - at least for the first 162 games of the season. I don't think he has the make-up to have what it takes to be a clutch performer in October. If, and a big if, he wins a ring, it won't be because of his performance.

Different dynamic on this team. A-Rod is no longer the focal point that he was two years ago.
The arrival of Teixeira has certainly relieved much of the pressure on him. Now, how will Teixeira handle the post-season spotlight, in New York? It will be very compelling.

I couldn't disagree more. It might be good for TV ratings, but frankly showing that you can buy a spot in the playoffs is not good for baseball.
I’m not trying to contend an issue of “fairness” in baseball. The economic nature of baseball is what it is until it is changed. Big market, little market, revenue sharing, payroll, etc…all of these issues no doubt can be an advantage or disadvantage. I disagree with the concept of “buying your way into the playoffs”. The players have to perform and earn it! The argument could be made that the Yankees are doing what they can to leverage an advantage for their team by fielding the best players they can afford to put out there; I would buy that!
It’s more than TV ratings my friend; the Yankees are a piece of “Americana”, whether you’re a fan or not.
