Looking forward to 2 weeks of great tennis. I don't know what it is, but there is something about Wimbledon that keeps me glued to the television set.

Hopefully Roger Federer will capture the title, breaking the all-time record. Shame that Nadal is out with an injury and unable to defend his title. Would have been nice to see them battle again. Maybe Roddick can make a run... I would rather see him go through to the final than Murray.

On the ladies side, I hope that both Williams sisters do well. Venus almost owns Wimbledon and Serena is easily the best player of her generation. Would be great to see them battle in another final.

Gag rule or no gag rule: Clicky. Let's hope Sharapova meets De Brito or Serena at some point: Clicky #2.

One of my all-time favorites at Wimbeldon was watching Boris Becker play! And of course this guy.

McEnroe's behavior on the court could certainly be embarrassing, and entertaining. However, he had the best hands of any player I have ever seen play. The racquet was a magic wand in his hands when he was at net. Unfortunately, there are no more true serve and volley players among the top players in the world today. Frown

Well, I think this one is for Federer to lose... we will see...

On the American side, I would really like for Roddick to step up and do better... the grass certainly gives him an edge...

I believe Roddick was a one-hit (slam) wonder. He doesn't win tour events with any regularity, so I don't expect much from him in this tournament.

Last year at the Sony-Erickson in Key Biscaine, I ran into some people who had seen McEnroe playing at a seniors tournament somewhere in south Florida. They were talking about his outrageous/rude behaviour while disputing a line call. My guess is he will never grow up and develop adult emotions.

On same subject, I also remember seeing him on a talk show some years ago promoting the art dealership he had just opened in NYC. He'd grown a goatee to go along with his new career. Looked like an absolute twit.

Yeah, unfortunately his on-court behavior often overshadowed his immense talent. I have watched some of his Senior matches - when flipping by the Tennis Channel. He will never lose that petulant attitude. Red Face

Surprisingly, he is a very gracious commentator. I have even heard him make kind remarks about Ivan Lendl. Eek

The way these people were talking about the episode, it must have been a pretty good spectacle. They went so far as to say that the sponsor may not wish to put the event on next year. Seems it was all a bit over-the-top to me, but I'm not sure if it was John or the people attending.

I was watching Wimbledon this morning and was struck (again) by how Patrick McEnroe's physical appearance and facial mannerisms remind me so much of George Bush. If he could speak southern, I bet he could do a great impersonation.

I watched Karlovic beat Verdasco this morning. Not much tennis played in that match.

I have to admire the marketing effort that has made Wimbledon such a huge event. Always lots of drama if not much tennis.

Holy $hit, Tommy Haas beat out Djokovic. Have to watch my recorder later. But the Hewitt vs Roddick match should be the best of the day.

I'm not surprised at the Haas-Djokovic result. Haas has always had great ability; he should have beaten Federer at Roland Garros this year. However, he never seems able to mentally close out big matches and/or tournaments. Djokovic is a great match-up for him; someone that possesses his own mental shortcomings.

I didn't get to see the Hewitt-Roddick match, but it certainly looks like it was the match of the tournament, so far.

Roddick got killed by Murray earlier this year. I hope he can pull a tough one out but my hopes are not too high. Nice to see we will have an American win between the Williams sisters.

Well I was surprised for a bunch of reasons: (1) I've been watching Haas having hissy-fits on court for many years, so seeing him keep his emotions in check long enough to win a match seems long overdue. (2) Wimbledon has always been a young players tournament. This year seems to be different but, at age 31, Haas is really pushing the typical profile of a Wimbledon winner. But I agree with you that the man has talent that many have never seen.

I actually think the result says more about the prolonged slump that Djokovic is facing.

Speaking of the resurgence of the older guys on tour, Daniel Nestor is in the doubles final again. Nestor/Zimonjic struggled to beat Blake and Fish (who looked surprisingly strong in doubles play) and are up against the Brians in the final. This is becoming a great rivalry.

Venus and Roger can go ahead and reserve another space in their respective trophy cases. Wink

I would have to agree. Roger and Venus looked very sharp in their respective semis. Even though Venus wasn't tested very much, she was in total control... moving forward, dominating the points. I do think Serena has a chance though. She played quite poorly up until the last two games of the match and still managed to win. Hopefully she will get her form back and it will be a great final tomorrow.

Big Grin I'm sure you are right - but perhaps Andy can ride the crest into the finals. I think he will make a good showing in the final against Roger.

I'm hoping for three sets.
