What do you plan on using it for and what applications are critical for you?
FWIW, Mac's are now on an Intel platform.

If you've got the moolah, go MAC, much more troublefree In my workplace, we have 9 IT folks for PCs, 2 IT guys for MAC, and there is roughly a 50/50 split between PC/MAC in the building. Plus, with the new Intel chips, MACs will easily run PC software with no loss in speed.
If you like video games, or if you're running something specialized like groundwater analysis, or the like, PC is your way to go. Otherwise, MAC all the way, and yes, their LCD screen is bananas (go to the nearest Apple store to see for yourself). As far as desktop or laptop, depends. How much do you travel or milk WI-FI from coffee houses?
But, if you do go MAC, wait a bit, I'm hearing rumors of a new Quad Duo Core upgrade for their machines, coming very shortly.
Good luck!
