I suspect that this relationship is non-monotonic. Nevertheless, it is not hard to conceive of a scenario where a special needs kid benefits from a special needs specialized instructor who conceivably costed more to hire due to their specialization.

Thank you for your well spoken response. Note that I am not talking "settled science" (though I believe that evolution is), but science. Science has a definition just like there is a specific definition for a chair, talking, a water cooler etc. Science uses the scientific method. You may choose to dismiss its conclusions, but there it is. Intellegent design (creationism) is not falsifiable, it is not subject to the scientific method, therefore by definition is not science, it's faith. This doesn't mean that it's not true (though I don't think it is).

"I am puzzled by the militant, angry attitudes and just plain silliness on the part of the True Believer Darwin crowd." We are very unhappy when nonscience is falsely dressed up in scientific pants and attempts are made to inject it into science (ie biology) classes. Fortunately, so far, the courts have spotted the charade and barred it.

Guys,

Stick to the movies. WS Forums are not the place to talk Global Warming or Intelligent Design vs. Evolution. Or the California education system for that matter.

One I haven't seen posted here yet.
Little Big Man

BTW, I have read the book, and I think the film was better.

Way too many choices. Would need more information on the age and sexes of the young uns. And whether to educate or to entertain.

Toy Story 1 and 2,

Ditto the Natural and To Kill a Mockingbird

i'll throw in:

Hoosiers

Not knowing anything else precludes me from adding further.

Little Big Man is a great movie. Not sure what film or the first film I would show a Young Adult. I guess it would depend on how old he/she is.

Good call, great flick.

Rob Reiner's film "Stand By Me" is another I'd recommend

Pulp Fiction
Zorba the Greek
Apocalypse Now
Citizen Kane
2001: A Space Odyssey

The latter isn't my favourite Kubrick film, but it is/was the most thought provoking one.

Roots & Roots the Next Generation

Roots first aired the night I was born. I think it is important to know where you came from in order to know where you are going. . .

Both good flicks, but I'm not sure what message you're trying to convey to a youngster. Unless it's "wear more flair".

When I started this thread I was remembering that I had taken my two nieces to see The Secret Garden when they were 7 and 3. The youngest was nearing her graduation from high school. Time changes all. Thanks to all who reminded me of movies I had somehow forgotten while also reminding me of other movies I had remembered yet previously failed to mention.

Movies are a great escape on a hot summer day when the only AC is the local movie theatre.
