I meant to post this before the season started but never found the time. My predictions for this years standings are as follows:
1st Chelsea-will be in trouble if Drogba or Anelka go down, lack of depth up front. 2nd Man U-Owens and Valencia are to replace Tevez and Ronaldo, really? 3rd Liverpool-throw away too many points, see todays game as an example. 4th Man City-the big spending has got them into the top four, just not to the top of the pile, yet. 5th Arsenal-not withstanding their romp at Goodison Park, a team built around Fabregas, van Persie and a philosophy of selling as soon as a player reaches 24 is not going to cut it. 6th Everton-after the way they lost yesterday I was tempted to drop them, but for whom? Villa was rubbish and the Spurs, well the boys from White Hart Lane have have disappointed me enough over the last few seasons to make me gunshy.
All in all I don't see anyone at the top of the table outside of Man City being better than they were, and some are clearly weaker. I would lower my expectations for Man U if it wasn't for the deficiencies of the other teams. It should be a great year, although I don't see three English teams making the CL semis again this season.

Personally, as a fan of the EPL in general and not a specific club, the story line that's most exciting to me is seeing what Jozy does for Hull City. Can't wait for his work permit to get cleared so he can hit the pitch, hopefully a full season in the EPL will help him gear up for SA2010.
I'm not a fan of any EPL club either, my team growing up, Nottingham Forest, has been in the lower leagues for a while now. I did cheer for Fulham, but that was only because I liked Brian McBride's game. Now that he's gone I only watch for the game itself. I do however take great satisfaction whenever Man U loses as I can't stand Sir Alex. To me he is a bully with a distorted sense of entitlement.

Well, I certainly like and agree with your prediction for first place Vt2It. Liverpool could even finish ahead of ManU though, which would be sweet, because I also share your sentiments about Ferguson.
Purple, that big fat goose egg they put up would seem to imply that they also have problems at the other end of the pitch. This is a team that to some degree has gotten old, and allowed much of their scoring punch to leave. Add to that the lose of Van der Sar and I see no way for them to be as good as last year. Yes it is very early and time will tell, but I can't help but think there will be a fall off.

Actually Man U is in debt to the tune of hundreds of millions, a prime reason that they took Madrid's money for Ronaldo. The fans in Manchester think that the Glazers don't care about the team at all.

Wow is Liverpool off to an awful start to the season. Steven Gerrard had a dreadful game, a miss from two yards and then takes Reo-Coker down in the box. It's still very early but Rafa must be worried.

Chelsea has been found guilty on a tapping up charge. Banned from any transfers until January 2011 plus around a million dollar penalty. Roman can afford the money, but no new players for a year is pretty severe. It's about time something was done as contracts in soccer are almost worthless. The next step should be to only allow funds from the club, not the owner to be used for transfers.

Game isn't over yet, but 3-0 Chelsea with 15 minutes left to play.
And unfortunately ManUre beat City in the battle of Manchester. Didn't see the game, but sounds like the last 10 minutes or so were pretty thrilling.
The Spurs sure have been put in their place these last couple of games. How bad is Drogba's leg? Chelsea needs him to play despite what Carlo says, or their perfect start could end.
As for the Manchester Derby, the last 10 minutes lasted 17. Mark Hughes is rightly fuming as it seemed that the ref was going to let them play until Man U scored again.

Didn't know I'd find an EPL site on a wine forum. Two of my favorite things in life - football and wine. Any other Arsenal fans out there? I've been hooked ever since I saw matches at Highbury in the mid 90s. Bergkamp was inspirational; just like a fine Pinot.
