Is that an 8 clap that I hear????
This is the best weekend of basketball all year ....I can't wait. Mbah Moute is health (enough)...look for the Bruins to come out hungry. As Jermaine would say "It's business time..." (that is an obscure Flight of the Concords reference- see other thread) I digress..anyway..I'd love to see a matchup against West Virginia in the great 8- we owe them one from last year when they beat us 70-65..mind you Collison was out. |

scbeer,
Yep. SEC football is a good analogy. But Carolina and dook never root for each other out of conference. Never. Funny post on InsideCarolina.com. A poster starts a thread asking folks to comment on "Things Better Designed than Belmont's Inbounds Play." (As you may have seen, Belmont had the ball out of bounds under the basket with 5 seconds left and down 1 pt to dook and the guy threw an ally oop right to dook.) Anyway, here are some fan entries for "Things Better Designed than Belmont's Inbounds Play." -- The Edsal -- Bay of Pigs invasion -- Roger Clemens' defense -- The Hindenberg -- The Titanic -- France's Maginot Line -- A Reverend Wright Sermon -- 1970s architecture -- Ford Pinto -- Trump's hair -- The Tacoma Narrows Bridge -- Custer's battle plan at Little Big Horn -- Eliot Spitzer's rendezvous with the call girl -- Betamax -- Screen doors on submarines -- Double sided playing cards |

The Louisville vs. Tennessee game tonight promises to be entertaining but Tenn will need to have their best game of the year to win it (Sorry, Shaferguy & Latour, but Louisville is superior to Memphis).

Altaholic,
Louisville and Carolina put on quite a show last night. It's a shame they're playing in the regionals. And, it's a joke that Lville is a 3 seed -- and that they were put in the East b/c Saturday's game is equivalent to a National Championship game in terms of how good these teams are. In essense, either team has to win 3 National Championships at this point, as the Final 4 game would likely be against Kansas (most experts say they're the best team) followed by the actual NC game. Should be fun. 2 great programs with great, great tradition playing a game which may be the toughest game remaining for each team. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Instant Access, |

Watched the UCLA v WKU game with interest last night, being a WKU grad. It looked like UCLA was going to come back from the half and waltz away with the game, but WKU gave them a real fight. I was proud of them.

You should be very proud, Tim. WKU was no fluke and they showed great heart.

Mr. Fish, I am a die-hard L.A. fan…grew up down the hill from Dodger Stadium. I’ve learned throughout the years that L.A. teams, including UCLA, play down to their competition. To be sure though, NCAA Conferences such as the Big East and the ACC have no mercy on their opponents. On the other hand, UCLA seems to, most of the time, rise to the challenge against tough teams; plus they have stronger offense this year and of course Howland’s emphasis on defense should get them there to the final four where they can stop sleeping. (Not to mention the NCAA Selection Committee placing them in a pushover bracket.) Anyhow, I am hoping that Stanford can bring it up against Texas, tonight. Stanford’s challenge will be defending against that Texas backcourt duo. I am still pulling for the California boys. |

Got that right; WKU played with great heart and determination. Tyrone Brazleton was amazing. ------------------------- "I don't want to manage my cellar... I want to drink it." - Jancis Robinson |

As ludicrous as it sounds, this is true. Sancho- where'd you grow up? I'm from Glendale. WK put forth a valient effort. UCLA got lazy- Collison picked up 3 crappy fouls in 3 minutes. He, Shipp & Westbrook were gambling instead of playing solid D. I think of this UCLA team kind of like the Spurs (I know-without the ring)...they have been to the final 4 twice- everything else is just leading up to that. Yes, they blew a lead and yes they have looked vulnerable but they are winning. Westbrook got a nice refresher course at point guard and Keefe is finally getting healthy and playing like the McDonalds All-American he was. On top of that Shipp started slashing again and hit a couple of 3's. They don't win prety but they win. And for those ofyou who haven't seen Love play, pay attention, he is something special. |

j, Yeah!!! Our boys are due! In 2006 they ran against a powerful and talent-loaded Florida team. However, this year is different; guard Russell Westbrook has stepped forward and the Love man (to think only a freshman) is a force both on offense and defense to contend with. Hopefully, Mbah a Moute can get in there and get us some boards. We also need 15 to 20 points from Shipp. And we both know for sure: you can’t play for Howland unless you are relentless on D. I grew up right at the bottom of hill off of Stadium Way; a small neighborhood nicknamed Frogtown by the locals. (The frogs use to come up on our lawns from the L.A. aqueduct.) Again I point out that North Carolina and Memphis are #1 and # 2 for a good reason.

You got that right, Shafer.
Wow, some teams are playing outstanding basketball ball right now!! I have yet to see more than 1/2 of a Carolina game b/c CBS cuts away in the first half as Carolina is up by 20 to 30 points. Then I see Louisville crush a great Tennessee team and wonder how they got shafted with a 3 seed in the East. Then I see Kansas play like NBA All Stars. Then I see Memphis destroy Michigan State. There are some scary teams. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Instant Access, |

Kansas is in for one helluva match-up against Davidson. That point guard Richards doesn't turn the ball over. He tore apart the Badger's defense (best in the country) by his ball handling skills. The other guard (Curry) will put up 30 points against Kansas. And that coach from Davidson, man, he runs a well-oiled constantly moving offense; let alone their D. They attack the whole game. Lookout Kansas; you're in for a battle.

Sancho,
As a big fan of Davidson, I'd like to believe that, but I can't. Kansas is perhaps the most loaded team in the country and they are playing as well as anyone. There are probably 5 NBA players on that team and they didn't even break a sweat in drubbing a solid Villanova team. They can score inside; they can score outside; they can run; they can beat you in the half court; and they may be the best defensive team in the country. (The D numbers are a bit skewed b/c they blow everyone out and don't have to lock down all the time.) I think Curry will get his points, but I just don't see Davidson being able to hang in there. But I'm very happy to see the run Davidson has made. |

It's not D1, but my alma mater, Winona State University won the D2 National Championship today. That's 2 in the last 3 years. Their record the last two years is 73-2. That's pretty good at any level.

73-2? Damn straight that's "pretty good"... it's way better than that, actually. Well done Winona State. You have every right to be proud of them, thelostverse! ------------------------- "I don't want to manage my cellar... I want to drink it." - Jancis Robinson |

Good night for the Bruins...I hope Texas beats Memphis so UCLA gets another shot at them...this time at full strength. But I think this is the year the 4number 1 seeds go to the final 4.
I celebrated the victory with a 99 Rudd Jericho Canyon and an 04 Wiliams Selyem Sonoma Coast pinot... |

UCLA played great tonight and I'm happy for you jgreen. I mean, it's about time you were able to watch a Bruins game without having to have a crash cart next to you. Good call on the celebration selections too! ------------------------- "I don't want to manage my cellar... I want to drink it." - Jancis Robinson |

thelostverse, I didn't realize their dominance. That's pretty incredible. So what's their secret?
jgreen (and Sancho), Well deserved celebration! UCLA looked very good! Kevin Love is something special. Now, if Carolina's game didn't end so late on the East Coast, I could have found something nice to open, too. I'll make up for it tonight with a nice bottle of wine with dinner. Hat's off to Louisville. They got shafted by being put in the East, but they played a great game last night and gave Carolina all they could handle. Pitino is one great coach and really made some nice adjustments in the 2nd Half to get back in it. Tyler Hansbrough showed why he's the NPOY and made some incredible plays down the stretch. |

As a Davidson Alum, I am so proud of the Wildcats. Given their performances against Kansas, UNC and UCLA, they would have been a threat in the Final Four.
We should have a great FF with all four number one seeds. To me, any of the four could take it. |

I cant believe Memphis pounded Texas like they did, I under estimated that team. I still dont think they can take UCLA, but it should be a great game.

I was completely wrong about Davidson's chances against Kansas. Having the ball with a chance to win is all you can hope for. Great game.
I also can't believe how dominant Memphis has looked lately. Their size and athleticism should be illegal. What a great F4. Each team can make a strong case for why they'll cut the nets down in a week. |
