Holy crap. My heart can't takethis. Typical 2008 Bruins..down by 10,play shut down defense, andwin on a last second shot.

Things should be easier with San Diego/ western KY.

The full week of practice with Mbah Moute wil help- he was off the entire night.

ANd Shipp needs ot get it together-heis the key. Another 0-fer.

DF in MT- Sorry about the ducks-they just never lived to their potential.

Dukies are no surprise-they had no inside game all year.

Stanford/ Tx (assuming they win) should be great.

mbah moute was off and he should not have been taking any shots...he was trying to make things out of nothing. he should have sat and waited till next week's games.

Heh heh... my brother and I are watching this and I'm telling him "I know a guy on the WS forum that's going to need resuscitating after this." Glad to see you're still with us! Smile

Oregon not living up to their potential is spot on, if not a real understatement. Elite Eight team last year is "one and out" this year. Typical Oregon to play well at the start, build up a sizeable lead, then have a complete meltdown. I'll be surprised if Kent's still coaching them next year.

Well, as a Wisconsin native I guess I'll be rooting for the Badgers, and as a Pac 10 fan I'll be rooting for the conference's remaining teams: UCLA, Stanford, and Washington State (the latter looking especially good yesterday).

Which reminds me that I need to post TN's (when I can) on the wines we drank on "March Madness w/my brother Days Three & Four."

My bracket took a severe hit yesterday with Georgetown out of it now Eek Currently tied for 3rd but I'm now really worried about Memphis as they just didn't look sharp. Calipari needs to get his team motivated as they are much better than what they are showing.

I cannot describe the joy that I have experienced from Davidson's great run thus far. For those of you younger fans, Davidson had great teams from 1965 to 1971 under Lefty Driesell, then fell off of the map. I have been waiting 39 years to get back to this level. This is an incredible accomplishment for a school of 1,700 where the players better have at least 1,300 SAT scores and be in the top 10% of their high school class.

Putting the bias aside, the Cats have a good chance against Wisconsin (4 point dogs at this point). However, since I predicted Kansas to win it all, the dream will end there. If you look through this thread, you will see that I predicted this run at the beginning of the season.

Anyone who has seen Davidson this year should know that it is no fluke. They're very talented, very smart and very well coached. Congrats to them!

Exciting weekend coming up...I went 23/32 in the first round and 9/16 in the second- my worst showing in years. I have been dissing Duke all year but picked them to lose to UCLA. Other than that only major loss was USC (still cant figure that one out) who I had losing to Kansas. I have UCLA , TX, Kansas & UNC in my final four with UCLA beating UNC.

Worst case...Stanford beats TX and memphis and plays UCLA in final four- very tough to beat same time 4x in same year. OK- not worst case..worst case UCLA loses to Western KY. I am interested to see WKY's Lee against Westbrook. Better players have had their worst game of the year against Westbrook (see Curry, Mayo. I was looking at WKYs roster and they dont have an answer for Love- look for big numbers from him.

Jgreen: UCLA isnt going to lose. Memphis isnt going to make the final 4 and NC could beat Kansas but I have it the other way. I am in 2nd place in my pool and need the above to happen, if you couldnt tell already.

Jgreen,

I have the same exact final four as you, and I also had USC winning two games. I have Kansas beating UCLA for the title unless my Davidson Wildcats can get by them (I can dream). The play of now indicates that UNC and Kansas are playing the best ball, so the winner of that game will be the champ.

Every team needs some luck and a close game to win it all...Kansas' and UNC's games are coming.

I have no faith in Memphis (sorry Shaferguy)- no matter how much Clipari wants to say it doesnt matter, FT shooting does matter and wil cost them.

I hope UCLA gets TX in the Final 4 to avenge the loss earlier this season- which was Collison's first game back.

I think the Wisconsin v. Davidson game this Friday will be most interesting. Davidson's been playing awfully well and Wisconsin's win over Kansas St was solid.

Kansas is playing so well so I don't see them having a problem with Villanova (but you never know). Assuming they beat Villanova, I believe whoever they play for the Midwest Championship - be it Davidson or Wisconsin (I'd like to see the latter in the championship) - is going to make it one hell of a game. Still, as much as I'd like to see Wisconsin winning it, I believe Kansas will take the Midwest.

I've got North Carolina winning the East, Texas winning the South, and UCLA winning the West.

I've then got North Carolina beating Kansas, UCLA beating Texas, then North Carolina winning the final.

Personally, I'd love to see...

1) Wisconsin win the Midwest.

2) Washington State beat the crap out of UNC and whoever they'd face in the final of the East.

3) Toss up between Wisconsin and Washington State in the semi finals. I'm originally from Wisconsin so I'll be rooting for them. On the other hand, I'm also rooting for PAC 10 teams so if WSU were to win I'd be happy.

4) UCLA win the West.

5) Stanford win the South.

6) UCLA win the semi finals (I lived in SoCal for many years before I moved north so I still root for SoCal-based teams).

7) UCLA vs. Wisconsin or Washington State in the finals.

8) UCLA or Wisconsin to win.

That's what I'd like to see but the chances of that being a reality are pretty slim. Still, anything can happen to anyone in this sport, which is why I'm so eager to see the upcoming games.

Agreed, I think that the Wisconsin vs. Davidson will be a great game with two of the hottest teams in the nation.

Great thing about the S16 is that every remaining team can say they're hot right now, and it's true.

A lot of great matchups out there. I'm really interested in TN-Lou and TX-Stan.

It's funny. When Carolina won the National Championship in 2005 in St. Louis, the Illinois fans in the arena were rooting for fellow Big 10 school, Mich St. in the F4 against Carolina. In the Championship game, the MSU fans were rooting for Illinois. And, both schools also rooted for Wisky against Carolina in the Elite 8 (at least on the message boards).

(That year, Carolina won the ACC, the National Championship and the Big 10 Championship.) Razz

Maybe it's b/c the Big 10 is more of a football conference, but ACC fans just don't root for their conference rivals very often. In fact, they usually loudly root for the other team playing the hated ACC team.

I'm from the Northeast originally, and I don't understand the ACC hoops subculture completely, but I think a partial explanation is that ACC fans have extremely long memories and recall slights from 20, 30, 40 years ago.

To read about the Carolina-dook or NCST or Wake or Maryland rivalries is to get a history lesson in every elbow, hard foul, coaching squabble and recruiting battle that has taken place since 1957.

I think the reason I root for Pac 10 teams is because if they don't win, it vindicates the east-coast & midwest biased media saying the Pac 10 is weak.

All three Pac 10 teams will be in the final four, but first things first: (#4) Washington St will upset (#1) N. Carolina to move on to the elite 8; (#3)Stanford will knock off (#2)Texas; and (#1) UCLA will take Western Ky. to school (blow out).

I guess that makes sense, jgreen, but as an ACC fan, I find it difficult to imagine rooting for conference rivals we've been at war with for 2 months.

In part, this may be due to the nature of the rivalry between UNC and dook.

Both teams usually have a legit shot to with the Championship every year. It really raises the stakes and precludes any notion of wanting to see the conference rival do well.

Winning the NC gives bragging rights re coaching, tradition, talent, fans, style of play, etc. for a few years until the other team gets their Championship. Thus, it's a rivalry that goes beyond proximity.

Each school's fans are so over-the-top about the rivalry, they NEVER want to see the 2 teams meet in the Tourney, esp. the F4 and/or the Natl Championship game b/c such a trump card would screw up the rivalry. It's crazy.

Carolina fans hope for 2 things every year; a Natl. Championship and an early exit for dook. dook roots for the same.

My opinion is that there just isn't the same kind of rivalry in PAC 10 basketball as there is in the ACC, which may explain why, come tournament time, PAC 10 fans root for PAC 10 teams in general. I mean, sure, every PAC 10 fan wants their specific team to win but, as jgreen alluded to, when you get to the NCAA Tournament it's more a matter of respect for the PAC 10 as a whole.

Now when it comes to football, I think there's a lot more intensity between the PAC 10 teams. UCLA v. USC, Cal v. Stanford, Washington v. Washington State (The Apple Cup), Oregon v. Oregon State (The Civil War) are fierce rivalries.

North Carolina and Memphis are #1 and # 2 for a good reason.
