UCLA should be improved in the coming years w/ Neuheisel & Chow, but they can't fix the immediate which is a poor O-Line. another year of summer drills, another summer of both UCLA QB's getting hurt before the season...Roll Eyes this will make it the 3rd year in a row that the projected starting QB will not start the season because of getting hurt during the offseason practices... oh well, at this point it's all potential, im waiting for 2010

Probably a bad time to start the year off with UT. Look on the bright side - half our starters might be in jail before then and/or their probabtion officers might not let them travel to California....

Need to get this thread back to the top.

The teams are in training camp and the season is less than two weeks away.

Espn thinks Ohio state is the team with 18 returning starters on offense and defense even though they tanked the last two championship games. I hope my hawkeyes can at least make a bowl game this year.

'Sounds like you're predicting that we'll beat USC, go undefeated, and go the the NC game... Wink I agree at least that far.

My predictions: Ohio State wins out and returns to the NC (what else would you expect from me). Oklahoma goes 12-0 with a few ugly wins (likely Texas Tech), beats Missouri in the conference championship, and goes to the NC. USC loses early to the Buckeyes, looks impressive smashing the rest of the PAC-10, and campaigns (again) for why they deserve to go to the NC more than OK; nobody east of CA wants to see a rematch, so they lose out. GA beats FL but loses to somebody else and renews their drumbeat from last year: "We play in the toughest conference in the country, so we should get special consideration. Just look at how impressive we are in our best games." More gnashing of teeth, folks calling for a play-off system (or at least a +1 NC game), and bowl games pitting teams like USC and GA against teams like Clemson, Pitt, and Utah (who will beat Michigan and BYU, who will beat UCLA).

The only thing that will give any relief from the hateration the Buckeyes will suffer will be the focus on OK's weak schedule and poor performance in recent BCS games. OSU wins, gets no credit from SEC fans, and we're one more baby-step closer to a play-off system. It ain't pretty, but this is what seems most likely to me right now.

Latour,

I went to grad school at Florida, so I am a Gator fan (as others on this board already know). I still pull for the Ball Coach and Visor Man to do well, and I do prefer the Cocks to Clemson. In addition, I have a son at Wake Forest, so I follow the Deacs as well.

I am looking for both the Gators and Deacs to have good years.

With the first weekend of College football rapidly approaching, I'm curious to know which games will be holding forumites' attention this weekend.

For me, besides watching my beloved Buckeyes, scouting USC, and enjoying watching Utah beat Michigan, I think Illinois/Missouri and Michigan St./Cal should be great games, but for the best football I hope to get some Alabama/Clemson viewing in.

Mizzou/Illinois will be a great game. I'm hoping to go to the Bama game here in the ATL.

I will also be GLUED to Mizzou - Illinois. It should be a really good game and some indication about the quality of both teams.

What are some of the other top 25 match-ups?

This Saturday the Oregon Ducks are hosting the Washington Huskies. Autzen Stadium may only hold 54,000 or so fans but they are LOUD fans, and it's never an easy task for any team to play at Autzen. Washington isn't the best team in the PAC 10 (not by a long shot) but their rivalry with Oregon is... let's just say "colorful." It'll be a good starting test for the Ducks.

I would love to have made it out to that game but it's not possible thanks to work obligations. Still, Fox Sports Northwest will be airing it live so you can bet I'll be glued to the TV for that one.

Will you be at the game duck833?

Autzen is always one of the toughest places to play.

I am interested to see how my Trojans do in Virginia. The defense will rock. If Marc Sanchez can live anywhere near his hype, SC will roll this year. Fight On.

As game day approaches, my biggest question is who will have the biggest blowout? Wisconsin over Akron, Georgia over Georgia Southern, Florida over Hawaii, USC over Virginia, West Virginia over Villanova, Oklahoma over Chattanooga, Texas Tech over Eastern Washington, or Penn State over Coastal Carolina (I didn't even know there was such a school, let alone a football team)? I look for 42+ points from all the winners, and 56+ for Florida and Oklahoma.

I don't see Ohio State running up the score on Youngstown for a number of reasons, including the fact that Tressel built that program, he doesn't tend to run up scores on anyone, and OSU has so much returning that he'll want to look more at backups, not to mention the depletion of the secondary due to injuries and disciplinary actions. USC, on the other hand, should beat VA by at least 4 TDs IMO. When USC's linebackers make VA's offense one-dimensional by shutting down the run, the D-line and secondary will pin their ears back and pummel VA's QB and receivers.

When two similarly talented teams meet, I think the advantage goes to a) experience, b) running game, and c) defense, which is why I'm picking Clemson and Missouri in this weekend's best games IMO (Illinois should have a very good team, but it won't be apparent until at least week 3).

I don't think Michigan's offense will execute at high enough level, and Utah's defense is no stranger to the spread attack. The key is the beginning of the game: The Big House is a tough place to play... unless things aren't going well for the Wolverines, at which point it has a reputation for getting very quiet. Michigan State, on the other hand, is my sleeper pick in the Big Ten, and I think they'll have an important win over Cal.

I can't wait! Smile

Boy, after NC State's performance tonight, VA will be playing for ACC pride. If they can't keep the game with USC respectable, the question will be how bad is the ACC?

I think Wolfpack fans may be thinking The Chest (Chuck Amato) is looking pretty good right now and wondering why they canned him. I'm looking forward to the UM - UF game and expect the Gators to easily prevail, but UM is always capable of a big surprise.

I'm not taking that game for granted at all. It seems we always throw up a dud performance against UM.

Does anyone have additional information on the QB that was carted off the field last night in the SC game? I sure hope he is alright.

I just heard on the news the NC State QB was diagnosed at the hospital with a grade 3 concussion and should be ok.

Boy, its quite exciting to see what happens when a guy who can run a 10.01 100 meters find daylight.

I knew the Gators had some speed on offense, but today's exhibition exceeded even my expectations...and Harvin isn't even playing!!

Answer to your question: not looking good. Fight on!

Clemson vs. Bama might be a better indicator.

Ya, that would be the Sugar Bowl, because it will be Ohio State and Oklahoma in the National Championship. Razz Wink

Seriously though, I can't watch the game due to professional duties, but I just saw that 'Bama is up big on Clemson. Upon checking the box scores I noticed that Clemson only had 8 yards rushing. In complete disbelief I read that Clemson's backfield had a total of 4 rushing attempts in the first half! What the @#$%^&*??!! Confused

Do you really think the "poisonous nuts" can actually score a touchdown against USC? Razz
