Which other elite QB's have ever been benched just for sucking? When the coach thinks your young unproven backup is better than you you're not elite. Not even a little. Also if you don't know the OT rules of your own sport I'd make the same argument.

If they need Plax then I'd say they're done. Of course I've never been shot through the leg but I wouldn't think you'd be ready to go a month from now for the playoffs.
Even if he's healthy/not suspended or arrested they should cut his ass now. He's a cancer to the team that is spreading if he's now got Antonio Pierce involved and possibly another player! Then lets not go to the hospital, lets try to hide it, nobody will ever know right? Some of these people just have no respect or appreciation for the insane amounts of money they make for the privelage of playing pro football/sports. Nobody expects him to be a role model of any kind but maybe just not being a complete idiot wouldn't be too much to ask, especially if I were the Giants owner. Reading the latest news here makes him sound like an even bigger idiot. And really, when you're carrying a weapon concealed or otherwise just don't keep a round in the chamber or in the cylander with the firing pin on it. It doesn't take a whole lot of gray matter to figure that out.

It doesn't matter how good you are no one has a great game 100% of the time. Getting benched does not mean the coach thinks your young unproven backup is better than you. That is quite the leap you are making.
It doesn't matter how "elite" a player is, anyone can and should be benched when stinking. Keeping someone in based on their reputation instead of their play is not good coaching.

It wasn't even the end of the first half when he was told to take a seat and then the coach was up in the air about who to start next week. To me that says the coach thinks you are doing more than having a bad game. And do you have any doubt that the Mannings, Brady, etc know the OT rules of the game?
Thank you to the first place in the AFC Worst, I mean West, Broncos for keeping the Pats in the hunt, they couldn't hold onto the ball to do it for themselves today
Just curious, as a NE faithful, what's your opinion on how has Matt Cassell been playing this year?

I think he's done an admirable job of keeping the ship afloat but there's just too many other key injuries for them I'm afraid. But as far as he's concerned I think he's stepped into a complicated offense with no starting experience since high school and progressed well a little bit every week. At first he held the ball too long or would run too soon and looked like a game manager who you just didn't want to make big mistakes and hurt the team. Now that he's got his internal clock up to speed and his pocket presence has really improved, until today of course, he is helping the team win and not just managing the game. He has a strong arm and can make any throw out there but his accuracy is sometimes just a bit off. I've seen him make some throws on the run that Brady couldn't have done any better but I've seen some misses of wide open guys that Brady or Manning get 6 off of but I assume he will improve that also with repetition and experience. Once he got in sync with Moss, Welker and Faulk everything has seemed to Gel. His progression is not unlike Brady's in 2001, it actually seems to be a bit quicker but maybe that's just having better weapons to work with than Brady did, not that I'd expect him to get to where Brady was last year but he's already better than about half the QB's that started today I think. He's definitely more than a servicable backup and will make some team a solid starter next year. I'm hoping for the 'Niners myself just because I've always liked them, it would be a shame to see him waste away on the Lions, Raiders, Chiefs etc etc etc.
Cassel is a good QB, maybe a great one, very soon. Question is, it's conceivable that he may lead them into some playoff games, and may even win a couple. When Brady comes back, perhaps his rehab goes a bit slower than planned, so is it possible that he might be effectively Bledsoed? Benched for the new kid Cassel. It sounds far-fetched, but if Brady is benched, would he no longer be elite?

That 3 game lead in the AFC Worst is looking pretty unsurmountable!
While trying to explain that, help me figure out how the Jets can beat the Titans on the road and then lose to Denver (who just lost to the Raiders) at home.

Bledsoe was never benched because he had a bad game, and he did have more than his share of stinkers. He was Favresque on many of his careless interceptions but was benched because they knew what they had in Brady sitting on the sidelines. They were so confident in that and in Bledsoes diminishing abilities they even traded their starting QB to a rival IN THEIR DIVISION. His injury was just the excuse they needed to do it but McNabb wasn't injured to my knowledge and if they thought the new kid was the next Brady or Manning (either of them it kills me to say) the coach would have stuck with him. I think Reed is probably done in Philly after this year anyways and so is McNabb so why not give him a shot and try to save your job bymaybe catching lightening in a bottle like the Pats with Brady. If what I've seen of Cassell, which has been better than I ever expected, is better than what they think Brady will ever be again while still in his prime years then I guess he wouldn't be elite anymore. But I agree that is very far fetched and I don't think they'd bench Brady, I think they'd trade him. Too expensive to just bench.
I have heard lots of talk about franchising Cassell for next year just in case Brady needs longer than expected to recover and then trading him after that so they get some good draft picks back but it is almost criminal in these parts to suggest Cassell would be better than Brady unless Brady just never recovers right and nobody around here even wants to think about that.
A question for you, I think the Colts have had some injuries to deal with and the Pats I know have so I know why those two aren't tearing it up this year but what has happened out in SD? I usually don't get see their games so I don't know why they have fallen from an AFC Title Game team, with an injured LT and Rivers, to where they are now with the only key injury being Merriman to my knowledge. I'm not dissapointed mind you, just baffled.
I am quite impressed with Cassell at QB. However I just do not see Tom Brady getting "Bledsoed" by him. If Brady is fully recovered, he still has 3 to 5 more prime years left in him, and as much as I hate to say it Brady is the best QB in the NFL, maybe one of the greatest ever.
Being a Steeler fan, and putting my bias aside, there is only one QB I see that close to Brady and that Tony Romo. I will have to say I am nervous about facing Dallas now. If we beat Dallas I think we have a real strong chance of getting to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately it will not be an easy game. Romo gives me the same worries Brady does.

I'd rather have Brees on my team than Romo, oh wait we did. Crap.

I'm neither a Jets nor a Giants fan, but those two teams would make it a great Super Bowl this year. It would almost be like the 2000 World Series.
Which team do you support?

I enjoyed watching them thump New England on Sunday. You are probably aware that I am a Phins fan by now, so watching any division rival get stomped is enjoyable.

Sure, fair enough. I'm sure others who follow the Bolts' ins and outs in the SD U-Trib can break it down more accurately, but they've made some pretty bad calls in the draft. The win-now philosophy of the front office has backfired with high draft picks that they've jettisoned in the past couple of years. The premier teams, know how to swap out game changers for game changers with good picks in the draft.
Sure, injuries suck, but everyone has them. Still, LT isn't right, and Merriman was such a presence (like Bob Sanders in Indy), that the few close games would probably be Chargers' wins with him SM in the lineup.
Norv has to go. When the Chargers didn't go for it on 4 and 2 against Peyton and company, I thought BOHICA. 90 seconds to go, with good field position, and Manning/Vinatieri in the seat, forgetaboutit. Plus, loading up the middle with the 3-4 defense that the Chargers have run for years isn't giving any of the short passing teams fits like it used to.
