I googled "top debut albums", and checked out about 5 lists...ALL of them included The Clash/The Clash.

I'm not ever going to argue personal music prefferences, but I was just surprised that no one else mentioned it.

I agree; it should have been mentioned.

Might be cheating, but I have to go with "The Traveling Wilburys Volume 1"

The first thing I thought of ... the one my 13-year old son likes to play along to on his guitars ... and the very first album I ever owned.

The one, the only, the already-named-here ...

Boston.

The other one that came to mind was GNR, Appetite for Destruction, but it's a distant second.

---------------
cheers, y'all!

Many great ones listed above including:
Self titled albums by Van Halen, Boston and Rage, as well as Weezer Blue album, GNR Appetite and Hendrix R U Experienced.

Noticeable omissions:

Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bullocks

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood (this album still speaks to me).

1. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
2. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced

Artists with incredible 1st albums and who would never eclipse them:
The Doors - The Doors
Van Halen- Van Halen
Boston - Boston
Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones

The Clash - The Clash - The US Release doesn’t really count since they swapped out some LP songs off the real 1st issue (a British release) with a few proven hit singles for the US release.

Wow, some excellent choices here.

Hard not to have PJ and "Ten" on any list. Ditto Nirvan and "Bleach".

The Tea Party ==> The Tea Party
U2 ==> Boy
The White Stripes ==> The White Stripes
Bush ==> 16 Stone (6 x plat!)
NIN ==> Pretty Little Hate Machine

WTF? LA Woman is a commercial jingle compared to the inspired 1st album.

Dude, Women and Children First and 1984 were better albums than what you’ve picked and neither live up to VH - VH.

hey red guy,

Nothing's Shocking is actually Jane's Second album, although their first was pretty good too. Ever notice the reflection in Perry Ferrell's sunglasses on the "shocking" album inside cover?

GD-
1984 was the most commerical album VH ever released (with DLR).

You can have Jump, Panama, Everbody Wants Some and I'll Wait; I'll take Mean Streets, Unchained, Hang 'Em High and Little Guitars Wink

Red Face Oops, my bad. I forgot about their 1st self titled album. I guess I should post this on the best 2nd album thread Wink. I saw them at the Palladium in LA with the Pixies just after they release Ritual de lo Habitual. Awsome freaking show.
