I'm working for a few weeks in Buffalo and after three free evenings I've hit four good wine shops and have come to the realization that I could never live here or I'd be broke, constantly drunk, divorced, or all three! Eek

Omigod there are so many big, well stocked stores with (mostly) fairly priced wines that I cannot decide which to choose for my initial full case purchase (10% discount! Cool). In order, I've been to:

Global Wines
Georgetown Wines
Gates Circle Wine
Premier Wines (Delaware Road)

Only got through half of the aisles of the latter before I ran out of steam due to hunger (it was past 8pm....) and the scary thing is that while it is the biggest wine store I think I've ever visited, there are apparently two others, with some different stock, just as big! Eek

The recon mission continues tonight, but I've already bought:

-1995 Taylor Vargellas ($30)
-2005 Boarding Pass shiraz (wasn't impressed)
-Chateau Reynella tawny port (not bad)
-Picos Something-or-other from Spain - WS Top 100 wine
-2001 Dashe Cellars Todd Brothers Ranch zin

I must be strong.....

That's the exact feeling I have every time I'm down there. Never been to the other stores you mentioned, wouldn't mind a rundown on some of them.

grossie, I'm in the suburbs (Williamsville), so perhaps I should hunt around a bit downtown too? As if I need more choices!! Big Grin

flwino, I have always declared every bottle, more out of anguish at the thought of having them confiscated than anything else. In any case, I've arranged for bottles to be taken across the border by friends and colleagues at regular intervals....

WEc - I will try to do so but I cannot find much time to post at work nor can I find a cyber cafe with a pc or Mac avaiiable for rent and the one at my hotel seems alwsays busy.

GA - yes we do, though the many signs along the highways from Canada through Buffalo send a message....
