I have been avoiding this thread like the plague. Living in AZ, the Cardinals haven't exactly been easy to root for. But, since they are on Monday night I have to pull for them this week vs. a worse (yes, I said worse) 49er team than last year. So, GO CARDINALS !!! At the very least have the decency to lose by less than 3 .

I actually think the Niners will be better this year.

I'm afraid that our local team will only serve to bolster the Dallas record week 5 (but hope not)...Looks like a tough schedule up here.

As for the rest of the NFC East, I do not know how the NY Giants and their gang of misfit personalities are going to do a better job than last year. Sunday will tell. And I guess all Donovan McNabb has to do is hand the ball off to Westbrook from his wheelchair and Philadelphia will be ok.
I'm going to stay true to the Cowboys, but I'll also watch Denver and hope for Mr. Cutler's success.

I think I have a bet with the wizard on who will have a better record this year - Jets or Giants.

If they can rebound from their annual beat down at the hands of Indy in week 4 to show against my Chargers in week 5, they may have a chance of making some noise this year. BTW, Simeon Rice was the class-act who publicly disrespected Pat Tillman for joining the US Rangers. Rice could think of nothing more to say than Tillman was a lousy football player.
Wow, you're fired up, Bob! Was just a little competitive banter - nothing meant to offend fans of other teams - especially the Super Bowl Champion Colts! No worries, just a little pre-season smack! If the Broncos pull off the upset, I'll expect the same. Cheers,

Nice win Indybob. Colts mean business.
Maybe the Saints will show up for their next game against the Bucs ???

No kidding. IMHO, the real star was the Colts D, in holding the Saints offense to three points. They never let Brees get comfortable in the pocket, where he can carve you up. From my eyes, the Manning offensive has a bit of rust to shake off, as there were some timing issues, especially with their new wideout Gonzales. Tennessee almost always plays the Colts tough, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose next week in Nashville. If they get past Vince Young and company, 7-0 is a definate possibility. The week nine Patriot game is the next time Indy faces a team of any real pedigree. Then they get crushed by my Chargers. . Saints fans, don't feel bad. The Colts expose most defenses, but once the O gets in synch, they'll be fine.

The Niners will be a playoff team this year, and will start the season out with a big win on Monday Night Football....

If you think beating up on my lowly Cardinals is a BIG win, it has been a long, dry spell for your Niners ! Seriously, I am probably the only one who thinks the 49ers take a step back this year and you are going to miss Norv Turner more than you think.

AZV, is the fact that the 9ers lost Norv Turner the only reason why you think they are going to be worse? If that's so I have at least 5 reasons they are going to be better: 1. Nate Clements- yeah, that's right, at the time of the signing he was (according to espn) the #1 free agent on the market. 2. Darryl Jackson- while not a top tier receiver by any means, he is certainly an upgrade from last year. 3. Vernon Davis- you will absolutely hear this name all season long. Remember, last year he broke his leg and had to play pass protection a lot because of the dismal o-line, this year at least Harris is gone. 4. Patrick Willis- rookie that replaced Harris, trust me, I would be a huge upgrade from Harris. 5. Alex Smith- with more experience you can't expect a quarterback to get worse. Even though he may not be great, I think he will get better because of the better o-line, defense and hopefully more targets to throw to. all of this and I didn't even have to mention Frank Gore!

I agree about the playoffs, I don't think it will take much to make the playoffs in the current NFC, but the niners are 0-4, in their last 4 against AZ , I just hope that means their due

ok, so we're making bold predictions? I predict that Norv Turner's presence with the Chargers will hurt them more than his absence from the 9ers. The San Diego Chargers will not be in the superbowl this year.

GO COWBOYS!
You are both great fellows, but seriously deluded when it comes to picking football teams. Even the lowly Redskins will have a better season than the Tuna-less Cowgirls! PH
Ok PH, you may be a first growth when it comes to wine, but you're choice of football teams, if you can call the Deadskins a football team, is more along the lines of a 2-buck Chuck quality. Joe Gibbs is about as relevant in the football world as Opus One is in the wine world. Lots of hype, but for those who really know, just not getting it done. Prediction: Skins SHOULD go 5-0 the first 5 of the season. BUT they'll really go 2-3, maybe 3-2 and finish around the .500 mark. If there is a team in the NFL who has perfected the art of underachieving, it's the Skins. Sorry, it's another high lottery pick in 08, and a season of watching your bitter rivals, THE BOYS, pass by you once again! Better luck next year!

Of course the Cowboys are kinda like the Yankees. They were once great, but haven't won anything in awhile..in fact the Cowboys have been lacking for longer, but really, who's counting.
Specifically regarding the Skins...they'll be fighting the Bucs for draft position.

A lot of westcoast of Canada follow/root for the Seahawks. I'm not a die-hard NFL fan, but do follow the Seahawks. They're predicted to finish as high as 2nd in the NFC West...I think they're expected to at least repeat their 9-7 record from last year. Hoping their 'D' performs better than last year and Alexander stays healthy and they make the playoffs.

I'd forgotten that you were a Dallas Kool-Aid drinker, klymkev! Good thing you have at least a couple other redeeming qualities. The Iggles at home is going to be tough, but otherwise I think they have a good shot at 4-1 a the end of their first 5. PH

When I saw the thread title, I thought "Big surprise an Indy guy starting the NFL thread". I was pleasantly surprised for about 30 seconds while reading you weren't a homer and worshiping at the Peyton alter. THEN, I saw the Charger in you come out and bash Oaktown. Understandable, everyone loves to hate the Raiders, especially other AFC West fans. It's on Indybob!! It's a brand new season and there is quite a bit to be excited about in Oakland. Optimistic? Sure, but we're all undefeated in Week 1.

Whew! Don't you love opening weekend? Week one almost over. Hell of a game between the NFC's finest and my Chargers! Nice win Bolts. And, I see the Raiders are 0-1. (Nice Fumble Roosky at the end of the game BTW). First step toward 0-16. One step at a time, one step at a time. Snipes, I don't know if everyone hates the Raiders, just Chargers fans. A few years ago, after SD hosted the superbowl, which included the Raiders, I saw a huge banner on I-5, a bit north of PB that read: "Go Home Raider Fans!" And, looks like the Patriots are locked and loaded aren't they? The Meadowlands is always a tough place to get a win in. Great fans in Jersey, lead by Fireman Ed.
