As far as Brady, indybob, you have no clue. This is a man who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars and his MVP prize auto to his high school. He has demonstrated, year after year, what class is.
Oh please. Almost every athlete donates money and does something for charity. I remember when Terell Owens was with the Eagles a writer wrote how he donates alot to charity, and how he is more dedicated to his grandmother then any other NFL player he has ever seen, in helping her out as much as he can. It also mentioned how T.O. spends a lot of time teaching children how to read and assisting schools. But yet he is not "classy" like Brady.
THAT's your comparison? The best you can come up with for class is the most selfish, self-promoting player in the league? Absolutely clueless. Brady has more class in his little toe than T.O will EVER have. Even after Dallas had the last minute comeback win against Detroit, T.O. was sulking because he didn't get the ball enough. There's no T.O. in team.

And there are quite a few high profile writers and former players who think it is just fine. Maybe they are the ones who are talking nonsense... Let's go back and talk about Ridge and Dunn and Togni. A much more wine-friendly thread.... Although I still want to know what NFL team you root for....

Hey, I'm not even a Pat's fan. I admire great players who elevate the team around them, do what it takes to win, exhibit character and leadership at crunch time and let their team results do the talking for them.

About the previously mentioned Ditka: USA Today reported that Ditka's charitable efforts to aid down-and-out players has raised more than $1.2 million but paid out just over $50,000. Hmmm....

And as far as athletes and "charitable foundations": The New York Times looked into A-Rod's charitable giving. Despite making $25 million in 2002, he only gave roughly $5,500 to his foundation, and the foundation gave out just $5,000 in 2006 even though one of its fundraisers brought in $368,000. I know of one year where Brady donated at least $250K to his high school....

Is Michael Vick from Atlanta, or does he just play there?

Sorry it didn't work for you. Vick is old news. If you lived in GA, woof is what Bulldog fans (proudly) do at the UGA football games. No, I'm not one of them.

No worries, a little obtuse I suppose. Didn't know about the Bulldogs "woof" reference. And, I think more folks nationally associate Vick with Atlanta than Virginia.

Probably so, but he is still considered by most to be the greatest VTech player ever.

Greatest out of VT. Ever heard of Bruce Smith? Vick was a mediocre QB at best in the NFL. He should just bulk up in prison and come back as a running back when he's released, if he gets another shot at all.

I didn't say greatest NFL career out of VT. Would you argue if I said Doug Flutie was the greatest BC player of all time? Vick was never a great NFL QB but he was an outstanding college player. VT fans, alumni and Beamer the long-time coach will all tell you he was the greatest player in VT history. Bruce Smith was an NFL HOFer but when he played at VT, they were at a much lower level as a football program. Vick's era elevated them to a national level where they recruit and contend regularly in the top 10 in the country. VT will likely end up #2 this year.

I guess I misunderstood what greates VTech player meant. I don't want to argue, just point out that Bruce Smith had a great career there also and that Vicks amazing college career isn't to me hands down the best VTech career ever but it probably is to a lot of younger people who never saw or even know anything about Smith. I copied the following from Wikipidia, I don't believe it's copyrighted.
Bruce Smith attended Virginia Tech and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the number one draft pick overall in the 1985 NFL Draft. Known as "The Sack Man" of Virginia Tech football, Bruce Smith capped his sensational college career in 1984 as the most honored player in Hokie history at the time. As a Tech player, Smith had a career total of 71 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for losses totaling 504 yards. Smith had 46 career quarterback sacks, including 22 during his junior season in 1983 when he was named first-team All-America by the AFCA (Coaches) and Newspaper Enterprise Association. In 1984 Smith won the Outland Trophy as America's top lineman and was a consensus All-American.
Vick also had a great college career, so if you mean by VTech player only as a college player and not counting professional achievement I suppose you could at least make an argument there for him but to me they're about equal for college achievement only. 1 and 1A, Vick is not a hands down winner.

Ok, Who wins by the biggest margin: Colts at Raiders Jets at Pats Philly at Cowboys Packers at Rams??? I'd be shocked if all four favorites didn't win. My picks for the biggest winning margin, in order: Colts ('cause I hate the Evil Raiders) Packers (Good mojo from SI cover-the curse is a myth) Pats (I think the Jets will show up) Cowboys (sorry Dallas crüe)

I'm afraid I have to agree. -Colts will run it up AGAIN -Pats should beat the Jets handily but mother nature might keep it closer than it should be -Green Bay should win by 10+ -Dallas should win but not big, Philly is a tough team when they want to be and might even win outright 14-0 comming up!
