The real College Football: 2009 thread will start when there is something to talk about - like sometime this summer.

Sorry, can't do that as Florida is synonymous with big time college football. The National Championship nearly always runs through the state of Florida as the jealous tirades of others shows. Here's the last quarter century that one of the Big Three from Florida played for the NC, and those bolded are the years won. Florida schools have won 10 NC's of the last 25 years, and played for it in 17 of the last 25 years.

Agreed. And please leave unproven innuendos about USC out of your petty discussion.

No doubt that Florida schools have been very successful over the last quarter century. Nobody can argue with you there. I also think that this thread is not a very positive start to what should be another amazing year of college ball. Perhaps we should have a "do over" when spring ball officially starts.

What's wrong with a little spirited debate between rivals? That's what college footbal is all about. You Cali boys don't have any in football that decide NC's (USC-ND USED to, but ND has been absent since 1988). Hell, half the threads on this forum would need a "do over" since they start like this.

Seriously, the title is all wrong. Starting a new season College Football thread is all about the optimism that builds in the Summer and the usual bad (but fun) predictions. Not beatching about your team’s NCAA sanctions in the Winter and how they affect games from previous seasons.
My suggested title was to poke fun at what this thread has turned into and has nothing to do with the strength of FL college football. It should have been titled: I’m a FL State crybaby! Please, someone else deserves spanking too.

Hey, can I help it if ND sucks?

Sorry to burst your bubble Mr. Sunshine. There have only been two stories since the end of the season - The SEC Signing Day Soap Opera and the FSU Sanctions. If it was your team that was having two seasons of wins taken away for something like this, I think you would bitch too. If not, you're not much of a fan.

Big Ten - Overrated and terrible. If Ohio State didnt get killed in NCs would anyone even pay attention to this conference.
Big 12 - Play some D and we'll take you seriously.
Pac 10 - USC and who cares
Big East - Shouldnt even get an automatic bid.
ACC - Up and coming, and interesting now that FSU and the Canes are getting better.
SEC - down year last year but they play the best football in the country year in and year out.
There, now we are all included in the trash talking.
This does not show the ACC as an Up and Coming conference...and certainly shows the Pac 10 showed well out of conference:
Conference-by-conference bowl records
How each fared during the postseason games
Conference Pac-10 (5) 5-0 SEC (8) 6-2 Big East 4-2 C-USA (6) 4-2 MWC (5) 3-2 Big 12 (7) 4-3 Independents 1-1 Sun Belt (2) 1-1 ACC (10) 4-6 WAC (5) 1-4 Big Ten (7) 1-6 MAC (5) 0-5

Yes, but 10 bowl teams from one conference tied a record that only the SEC has done. There were no great teams in the ACC last year, but lots of pretty good ones and only one sucky team. I think the main reason the ACC couldn't contend for a championship is there were no high quality QB's like you saw in the B12, SEC and at USC. As I have posted in the past, the ACC is the leader of conferences in top draft picks and NFL All Pros (by a mile). There is serious talent in the league.

Yes, but you included players that played in the Big East IIRC You might have also included FSU players that were drafted prior to FSU being in the ACC...but that might not have been the case...since I thought you were dealing with current NFL players.

You don’t get it. You’re welcome to bitch. Just call the thread what it is - “FSU - Tears in my Beers.” There are plenty of sport sub-topics here including those for the crybabies.

It's the big story in CF right now and it's 2009, so I started a new thread. Sue me or start your own thread if it's such a big deal to you. BTW who do you root for?

Hmmm......I am not sure that Charlie Weiss has that many tricks up his sleeve (or stuffed inside his mumu, for that matter). He will need more than green jerseys. Hope springs eternal. Fight on!

That's not nice
Sorry ND, I meant ND, er...Notre Dame. Those rumors are completely unsubstantiated.
FWIW, I wish that Notre Dame and UCLA were playing better ball. There is much more excitement in a rivalry game when both teams are playing well. Also helps us in the rankings and respect department (assuming we win the game). Not that I don't mind the occasional smack down on either of those two teams.

I really think people are in for a suprise with ND this season. They have an EASY schedule and their team will finally be grown up. This is the year that all the talent Charlie keeps bringing in is old enough to consistently dominate. USC is breaking in a new QB and loses a ton on D. ND could sneak up on them.
Chilipepper, the ACC is up and coming because UM and FSU are getting back on track. Without those schools then no its not up and coming. It is a solid conference but when the two Florida schools are good it is a very good conference. UM's talent will have another year under their belt and FSU will be much improved.
Conference bowl records dont mean a whole lot. I dont put much stock into bowl games unless its the NC. Some teams really want to be there and others dont even show up. Thats how a Boise State beats Oklahoma.
The ACC needs to get better than the past few years. I do not have confidence in Shannon as a head coach, but whoever follows him at Miami, say Tuberville, will immediately get them back into the top ten on talent alone. The situation at FSU is more uncertain (they will certainly stay at current levels) pending Bowden's timetable on retirement. The remainder of the league, mainly Clemson, Va Tech and UNC, have missed golden opportunities to dominate. My dog in the fight, Wake, will continue to be a nice story winning 7 to 8 games a year will three star talent.

True, but on the flip side we return our entire secondary. Most of the front 7 has seen a fair amount of game time, with a couple starting games last year. The defense will not be as dominant as last year, but very good. On the other side of the ball, we return the entire starting O-line (one of the best in the country last year), all of our running backs and 2 of our better wide receivers (we lose Turner who was very good, but not great). Yes, we will be starting a new quarterback (pick your parade all-american). Frankly, I would like to see them run the ball more anyway. ND and everyone else will still have their hands full.
Notre Dame's record will no doubt be better this year. They will be bowl eligible. But will an easy schedule prepare them for the big game?
