Who is watching and who is your team?

I have been watching the Padres. I thought Colorado was going to stomp them, but SD won 2/3 games. Late in the game, down a few points, close, low scoring games. I even enjoyed watching the game they lost against Colorado. Pretty good stuff. I especially like the beginning of the baseball season because I am never really sure how a team is going to do. I feel sorry for Bochy, the Giants are the ****tiest team in baseball right now. There is still a lot of games to go though, but still, what a demoralizing start.

I've been a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. SO happy they finally pulled their act together. Many pundits have them picked to win it all this year, which means they won't.. thanks Peter Gammons!! I also secretly pull for the Cubbies and Marlins but only because I have friends that play for both teams.

Most people in Chicago root for one and hate the other, but I root for both the Cubs and White Sox. I'd love a subway (or EL) series in Chicago. We have two good coaches and what appear to be good teams. Unfortunately the Cubs are experts in screwing things up and the White Sox play in the toughest division in all of baseball. But, the spring means hope for all teams. We'll see what happens.

I know Dempster and Rusch on the Cubbies. Dempster lives in Denver during the offseason and Rusch visits him a lot. Met them through a mutual friend. Really fun guys to party with.

BTW, I went to Wrigley last summer and I gotta tell ya man, that Old Style has got to go! Horrible.

Just when I was anticipating the Phillies would erase the horror of the mercifully over Flyers season and the nearly gone 76ers season... Roll Eyes

If we only had a bullpen...

SERIOUSLY!! What the heck happened to the bullies? Who knew Desjardins and Primeau were such assets?

I'm a Mariners fan, but have been unable to watch them over the last four games due to the weather cancellations! Argh! It's off to Boston now! Man, I hate the Red Sox... Mad

Cheers!

DRLSUBARU,

I think we just hijacked this thread. Desjardins is one of my all-time favorite players, along with John LeClair. They play(ed) hard and clean. I always thought Desjardins was underappreciated outside of Philly. Well, in 15 minutes we'll find out if we have the top pick in the draft. (We have a 48.3 percent chance of getting it, so we probably won't Confused Too bad there's no Sydney Crosby out there this year.)

I now return you to your regulalry scheduled baseball discussion: Cole Hamels has looked very strong in his first two starts, but we keep giving it up in relief. At least Jimmy Rollins seems to be making friends at Shea this week.

I am a Yankees fan- grandfather and father born in the Bronx...it's in my blood. I grew up in LA so I root for the Dodgers in the national league..

Anybody watch the Sox/ M's game last night? Hernandez blowing 99mph cheeeeeese in the 8th at 21 years old, with a wicked 93 mph slider and 86 curve...good news for the M's for years. That is until he becomes a free agent and the Yanks buy him Wink

I grew up in the Cleveland area and the Indians are still a favorite of mine. I also liked the Reds as a kid and I am still a fan of them as well. The fact that one is a NL team and the other an AL team allows me to be a fan of both. I was visiting with my parents and some friends in the Cleveland area over the weekend and the Indians actually had to play home games against the Angels in Milwaukee because of snow in Cleveland. Just a little north of where my parents live, there was 30 inches of snow last weekend. I casually watch baseball because the season is too long to stay constantly wrapped up in it.

My number one team is the Braves as that is all we had in the South when I was a child, and yes, I followed them when they were horrible.

I also follow the Red Sox in that my dad is from Boston.

Would it be greedy to expect a World Series title from the Braves this season (everyone on this board knows I'm a Gator fan)? Naah.

jgreen-

Yes I did see the game!!! Felix is definitely bringing some desperately needed talent to the oft-under-performing M's pitching lineup. He's sure fun to watch. For his second start of the season, a one-hit complete game against the Red Sox ain't too bad! Cool

Cheers!

I'm also a Pads fan. It has been fun to have some good years after all of the misery we have had to endure during the 70s and 80s (with the exception of 84). I have been trying to catch a few games on the tube here and there. They look good. The pitching (especially Peavey and the pen) has been great. The hitting has been somewhat anemic. I hope they stick to the Dodgers this weekend.
go Pads!

I've been a Yankees fan since I was a little kid. Sometimes they don't win the World Series. In fact they only win it every three years or so. I hope they improve on that mediocre record.

Just one more sip.

Red Guy,
Despite anemic hitting, or not hitting at all till the 8th inning I think the games have been interesting. Especially that game against the Giants that was 6-0. The Padres came to 5. They did not win, but the game had tension. To me that is good baseball. I hate those blow-outs where a team get slaughtered. In a slow game like baseball it makes for a boring spectator experience.

I am a fan of the second sh%#iest team in baseball the Giants(the Nats being #1 for right now).

I am so flippin tired of watching a leadoff double and then seeing Pedro Feliz come to the plate and roll over a breaking ball and hit a weak grounder to short keeping the runner at second. He sucks.....

The only reason it had tension is because Armando Benitez sucks even more than Pedro Feliz....

DnVD, the bad years make the good ones all the more enjoyable. A fan roots for the team even when it's bad. I rooted for the Yankees in 1991 when they were the worst team in baseball. I went to the games and getting a good seat was much easier than it is now.

Just one more sip.

I hear you. I too am a die hard Giants fan, been one since I was in diapers and I can't stand to watch that non-disciplined hacker Pedro Feliz. The Giants should have got rid of him a long time ago.

I am still rooting for them B-O, but some stuff just bugs the hell out of me.

I was listening to Brian Sabean on the radio last night and he was asked specifically about Feliz retaining the starting job (Aurilia has been getting a couple starts there). Sabean first commented how it was Bochy's decision, but then said (paraphrasing here) that Bochy will go with the hot hand and matchups. He sure made it sound like he is tired of Feliz as well....

Kind of makes Larry Krueger's "brain-dead Caribbean hitters hacking at slop nightly" comment true, doesn't it?!?!??!?
