We'll be in Napa in mid-July and are wondering which winery tour - one where you really get to experience how the wine is made and really learn something ... and taste some good wine - would be the best to experience.
Thanks!

If you really want the hands on thing I hear David Arthur is the way to go.

I, also, really like DAV. I always try to make it a point to get there when in Napa. Also, for a rather unique winery tour, I recommend visiting The Terraces.

I found the Del Dotto cave tour to be quite informative. It was a great education in taste to sample the same blend that has been stored in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels.

St. Supery Winery has a self-guided tour with some interesting exhibits including an interactive aroma station. Pine Ridge has a winery cave tour that is good. If you enjoy art, be sure to tour the modern art collection...for free at Hess Collection.

Flora Springs was very imformative. Campare different styles of oak in barrel tastings and other good stuff like that. Really good people.

If you want a perfect experience, go to Shafer.

Here are some you will really enjoy.

Ladera. Smaller winery that gives a great and fun tour. You will need to call ahead to get in.

Opus One. While the tasting is expensive, the tour is worth it.

Reverie. Smaller winery, great tour. Their wines lean more older style. They give a great tour. Call ahead to set it up.
