Is BYO legal in the state? I was told by one restaurant it wasn't.

What are your favorite restaurants in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area? BYO?

What are your favorite restaurants in Sedona? BYO?

Tia

Cool My sister and her family live in Paradise Valley, just outside of Scottsdale, in the Phoenix area. A few years ago, went for drinks and dinner at The Boulders. It was lovely then but, again, it's been a few years...
I don't know if BYO is do-able...

Board-O, friends own a great little boutique resort in Paradise valley, the Hermosa Inn. They have the restaurant Lon's, which is excellent. I think I've provided this info for you before, but if I can provide further info, please let me know. Their place is great. Do a google seach on them to check them out. You'll like the place.

BYO is not not legal in AZ, with a few obscure exceptions. As for Sedona, consider L’Auberge de Sedona, although it is not inexpensive.

Yeah, I found out the hard way. Frown I should've asked first.
Corkage was free poolside and in our hotel room, though. Wink

Thanks so much. BYO alone is not why I'd go anyplace. Do you recommend the food and service at any of these places?

Just one more sip.

Here are the 2 BYOB's I would rec:
Atlas Bistro - Food (B+ to A-) & innovative but the so called "Som" was a D@#K (don't think Mili Vanili works there now?....if you saw him you know what I'm talking about)!
Coup des Tartes - (Food B to B+) (Recent New Times Review)
Non BYOB
Mexican - Los Sombreros & or the Barrio Cafe
Upscale - Binkley's north in Cave Creek
We have a reservation at Kai this Saturday - Never been but have heard great things...I'll report back next week. They have a AAA Five Diamond Award with a Native American influenced menu.
Sushi - Sea Saw EXCELLENT!!!also on the same block are
Cowboy Ciao and
Kazimirez Wine Bar All three of these resaurants share the same wine list which is the most extensive yet confusing I've seen in AZ!
Another restaurant with a nice list is Rancho Pinot
I agree with the poster above about Lon's for outdoor dining if the weather is nice.
One more rec would be Backstreet Wine Salon The owner, Jock is extremely knowledgeable and has a nice selection of wines, and the food (bistro) is VERY good!
Oh, and FWIW Pizzeria Bianco is WAY over-rated. Perhaps the biggest disappoint that I've experienced in PHX. With all the hype I had Huge expectations. The ingredients were fresh & flavorful but the crust was doughy & tough. For me the Crust is 80% of what makes a great pizza.
Hope this helps Smile.....Good Restaurants with Great Food & Good Wine lists are few & far between here in PHX. It really is a shame, but you won't go wrong with any of the ones I mentioned above. When are you planning to visit AZ?
sps

Board-O, depending on when you are going, our friends are also doing the South Bridge project in Scottsdale. Sea Saw will be relocating to South Bridge and there will be many rstaurants of the same level of quality in that project. There will also be a restaurant that, from what I've heard, be very wine influenced...

Board-O,
Just saw your post. Work in Sedona. Don't know when you are travelling but it would be nice to share a glass. Travel dates?

Board-O,
Sorry, I forgot to report back on Kai on my last post. All I can say is it is a "Can't Miss" on your trip to PHX. Pobably the best dining experience that I've had locally. The service & food was just fabulous!
Hope this helps,
sps

Just had a great review of Binkley's from friends returning from Phoenix last week.
Will try it and Kai when we go in April.

To second Sky's idea, I just had lunch at Lon's at The Hermosa Inn. I've eaten there before, but this visit confirmed the charm. Nice wine list also, and they have a GREAT wine room downstairs that you can do a very nice private dinner for up to about 12.

I had dinner at Sassi recently and had a nice experience, including a decent wine list, though not cheap.

In the other direction, had dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse last night, not impressed. Steak was decent but not what it should be at those prices and wine list mediocre and mostly overpriced. Also, it has that "stripmall" or corporate restaurant feel, if that makes any sense.

Board-O - it's pretty close, maybe 10-15 mins north of the airport.

I went to Coup Des Tartes a couple nights ago. Everything was excellent. They leave corkscrews on all the tables which I have never seen before. Dined outside in the patio. $8 corkage.

Board-O,

You might want to try bone fish for dinner. It was wonderful if you are a seafood lover.

I also went to bevmo to pick up some wine. Decent selection and is supposed to be the biggest wine store in arizona.

Hope you enjoy your trip in arizona

Now....where's that Screwpull?
