I'm headed to Switzerland in the Summer and just recently thought about the potential for some interesting wine tastings. I know absolutely nothing about old world wines, which means I know even less about Switzerland. Any recommendations on wineries or even varietals I should try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |

I've got dual citizenship with switzerland and there are some good wineries throughout the country (especially around the French and Italian borders). Can't recall any specifics sadly, but try around Lausanne and Montreau and also the Ticino area especially around Lugano and the Locarno/Ascona area. Had some reeally good local wine and grappa in Lugano this New Years. Regardless, its an amazing country and you're sure to have a good time.

Switzerland is a beautiful country. The Alps are just magnificent. The chocolate is fantastic. The ice cream is delicious.
But, the local wines that I have had there were rather non-descript. One of the remarkable things about Switzerland is the fact that some of the French folks in the Geneva side of the country don't speak German, and some of the German folks on the eastern side of the country don't speak French, so you have people who are co-countrymen who cannot communicate with each other. Then you mix in the other languages and it's really bizarre. Irwin I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous |

Like JMatthews said, we found many wonderful French, Italian and wines from Austria while there.
Enjoy your trip! |
