After traveling a bit of the north of Nova Scotia, my family and I headed to Cavendish, PEI (total kid centric tourist trap with a great beach) just in time for Hurricane Bill. Fortunately, the eye of the storm stayed east off the coast so we just experienced a bit of wind and rain. We spent much of that day inside, but did get to an amazing art gallery called the Dunes in Brackley Beach. This is not your typical arts and craps store, as the architecture and grounds are amazing in addition to some great contemporary art pieces.
The next day, we headed off to Charlottetown and spent the day exploring the back streets. We had no map or agenda, so we just stopped where it looked fun. We had some great pizza for lunch at Castello's and a fantastic supper at Off Broadway - I would love to back to their lounge - before going to the Anne of Green Gables musical. I thought the show was going to be just for my 12 year old daughter, but it turned out that my 9 year old son and my wife and I all enjoyed the show.
The next day, the missus and kids did more Anne stuff in Cavendish and I went golfing at the Links in Crowbush Cove (awesome!!). When I returned the kids wanted to go to the Sandspit Amusement park, which they loved and then we spent the rest of the day at the beach. The red sand dunes at sunset are something to behold. After that we went to a 60 foot all you can eat buffet (with mussels, seafood chowder and of course fried rice?) which couldn't possibly satiate you, so you need to chase it was a 1.5 pound lobster, or if you're my wife the Snow Crab (this was fantastic, by the way). After overstuffing ourselves, we waddled back to the hotel where we slept off our food coma. Next morning off to Tatamagouche, Halifax and Peggy's Cove.
