Sharks v. Flames tonight, and the Red Wings come to town Saturday. Two redemption games for the Sharks. Should be fun to watch....

Let's see if I can make an analogy for you. Would you have rather had the Minnesota Big Papi, or the one who showed up in Boston? Same player or different player? Can somebody's game change in a year? Here's a hint: compare Papi's 2002 to his 2003 stats....

I'll probably be jailed for saying this around here but personally I think Papi is one of the ones who was, uh how can I put this without offending the lawyers, supplementing his workouts. Since the crackdown his numbers have dropped off dramatically. Granted he's had injuries but they are the strange type Nomar seems to get with ligaments, joints, tendons etc. Combine that with the fact that he openly said he didn't think latin players were ever well enough informed about the effects of steroids and, well, I hope he has a bounce back season so I can get these thoughts out of my head because lately he's looking more like the Minnesota Ortiz.

I'm not as quallified to make a comparrison as you but I don't think I'm unquallified either. I'm not saying his game has changed that much either. He was a big time player for Boston in the regular season but gonzo in the post season. Let me know if the Sharks ever get out of the second round with him and I might re-think my position but there is no way he went from what I saw here and see now on highlights to an Ovechkin or Crosby when I'm not looking. It didn't and isn't happening.

Tell you what - let's have Thornton center a line with Ovechkin or Crosby on it and see what happens. I'll take that line to the post season thank you.

I wouldn't necessarily argue your points about Papi, could be.

As for getting past the second round, Ovechkin hasn't been past the first. Flawed argument on your part.

But you didn't answer me about Boggs.... Wink Smile

TLV - If that line was together, Thornton would make a run at Gretzky's assist mark.... Eek

Last night finally had to happen. The Sharks finally lost in regulation at home....

Thornton even scored another goal and took a penalty for engaging in some rough stuff in front of *gasp* the Calgary net.... Wink

Postseason, postseason, postseason. I will be watching. The Sharks and B's will both be there obviously. I wouldn't mind seeing them play for the cup and it could very well happen. Well, provided Thornton has stepped up his game like you say.

As for Boggs I have no beef with his power and liked him a lot until he went to the Yanks. Unforgivable sin around here I'm sure you know. Hitting for average and chicken recipes was what he was about. The Ichiro of his day, offensively at least. There was always plenty of power around him from Evans, Rice, Baylor, Burkes, Greenwell etc. He set the table for those guys they cleaned it up.

That, my left coast friend, is Thornton's game as well....

I certainly hope we have the opportunity to make a friendly wager come Stanley Cup time....

I'm a right coast guy for the record. I'd enjoy a friendly wager too, so long as you don't vanish off the face of the earth like WineWiz did after losing. I have a feeling you would not, just wanted to get in another shot at him.

In what was the worst game I have seen the Sharks play this year, they still win 2-1 in OT. They were flat, and played with very little energy, and the Canucks had a good game plan in mucking things up across the blue line.

Nabby was pulled, and the Setoguchi scored with 39 seconds left, with the primary assist from Joe Thornton.

Then in OT, Marleau scored during a four on three, with the primary assist coming from, everybody say it with me, Joe Thornton!

Then there was an interesting scrum after the game on the ice and leading into the Canuck tunnel to the dressing room that was caused by one of the Sedin boys....

Seven minutes, a couple hits. His line did have a good shift which seemed to give the Sharks a little spark, which lasted only to the next shift.

Incomplete.

I do find it interesting that Wilson brought him in right before the break for this one game....

The B's won in OT also, letting them head into the break tied with the Sharks for most points in the NHL. Get some healthy players back and some rest and look out in the second half.

What a shock, an assist from Thornton. I haven't seen it but I'm guessing he was hanging out in the corner, nowhere near the net, and centered it. Enjoy it now because you won't be seeing much of it in post season. You'll be saying this then....say it with me "Where'd Joe Go?"

The Hawks have stumbled into the break. The once high octane offense can't score any goals to save their lives right now. This break couldn't have come at a better time.

Tied, true, but the Sharks have two games in hand on the Bruins.

You are right, Ice. I guess it does suck to lead the league in assists over the last four years.

Actually, Thornton was behind the net on both, although on the Setoguchi goal, he came in front of the net on the left side and passed to Seto in the slot....

It wasn't really pretty, but nevertheless a nice way to come out of the break. Maybe Nabby is finally getting back on top of his game, as he looked pretty good last night....

The Hawks get back at it tonight in Anaheim. They've changed the lines around and called up a player from the A to fill in for Versteeg's injury. They're changing some roles on the power play. It's almost like they think they are in last place rather than sitting in 4th in the conference right now.

At least Keith comes back from his concussion tonight. They missed him big time the last four games that he was injured.

For Grossie and BirDungy's benefit just in case they're not keeping up with the standings. Razz

Eastern Conference

GP W L OTL Pts
1 Boston 48 35 8 5 75
2 Washington 49 30 15 4 64
3 New Jersey 48 30 15 3 63
4 NY Rangers 49 29 16 4 62
5 Montreal 47 27 14 6 60

Mad Can't format the table properly, but I'm sure they can figure out the 75 and 60 are the respective point totals and the 1 and 5 are the positions in the standings.

If the Kings could play the Hawks every night, the Kings would win the Stanley Cup. What the hell is it with the Kings that the Hawks just can't get by?

Anyway, more trouble tonight as the Hawks will be in San Jose. The Hawks really need to beat one of these top echelon teams if they want the respect they seek. Alas, I don't see it happening for them tonight as the Sharks are just too good.

The basically poor play finally caught up with the Sharks last night. They haven't really played well for their prior three games, even though they had three wins to show for it. The Hawks had more jump, more intensity, and simply played better than the Sharks....
